To be fair I don't think anyone in here wants to shoot anyone else, or is hoping someone breaks into their home.

I have a home alarm and hope that'll do the trick as far as scaring someone off. If not I'll be waiting in my room with a pistol and a shotgun watching the door.

Both of my guns are chambered, and I don't have any kids. Leaving the gun on my nightstand is a non issue for me. That'll change when I do have children though.

That dog is more than likely to hurt itself running into a wall than stop an intruder.

Of course I would prefer that. But if the alarm blaring and dog barking doesn't scare them away, I doubt racking the shotgun will help (if they can even hear it over the alarm). They've had plenty of warnings. Next sound is bang.

But seriously, any dog that will alert you to a problem is very helpful.

I was raised the same way and plan on teaching mine.

I probably should have clarified and asked what people do when kids are able to start venturing around the house and still can't comprehend.

I guess I'll just move it to the top of my closet until the time comes for her to learn about it. I just feel like the gun will be so far away.

True. That goes for any dog, regardless of size.

Still, like a gun, stopping power can be VERY helpful.

:Lol : probably. But he will bark loudly first. Just a second alarm and a helluva good family dog.

Yeah, I have two golden retrievers. Friendliest dogs on the planet. But they'll bark like hell at night if they hear something. Now, if the crook showed up with dog treats, they'd probably show him where we keep the silverware, bigscreen, and jewelry.

Either that, or you're expecting Black Bart to come in at any point.

Three of these guns will get you killed. Which one do you grab first?

Glock 26 and a MagLite are within inches of me in the nightstand drawer at all times.

You better freeze when I say freeze, or the next thing you will hear is POW.

That is not tough talk. If someone has broken into your home knowing that someone is there, they have crossed the line and are prepared to do you and your family harm.

People racking slides and pumping shotguns as a deterrent do not understand personal safety.

I'm sure that officer Wilson, given a second chance to deal with that situation and not shoot Brown, would take it in a heart beat.

Well per standard procedure he shot him on self defense. The guy was shot 10 times and kept coming and you think he could have handled it differently.

To the person that said pumping a shotgun ejects a shell, that's only if there's one in the chamber.

There always should be. If there isnt, that means you have a weapon for self defense with only two rds.

By not chambering a round, the gun is safer if it some kid decides to mess with it.

You are contradicting your own point you made up above about not having a round chambered in a shotgun. If youre kids are taught from an early age like you were to respect guns and never to approach a weapon without an adult, then you should have no fear of having a loaded weapon in the house.

quote:

I've got no real problem shooting some piece of shite that is in my house, but even if it's a clean shoot, fully justified, that legal nightmare and other bullshite that comes with taking someone's life can ruin yours.

If someone is in your house unlawfully you can kill them. Open and shut case.
