He can't even catch a 4 pounder. Let's not go multiplying it by 5 now

we have a 500 acre high fend area within our ranch in texas. i haven't/wouldnt ever shoot any of these deer, but it is fun breeding and seeing those monsters.
its a rush locking yourself in a 1 acre pen with 25 deer with nothing more than a tranquilizer gun and a spot light.
this little guy is sound asleep. we had just tagged him and given him a vaccine

I was lucky enough to hunt on about 7k acres high fenced in cotulla for a couple years, I can tell you from my experience that during the summer you'll see the deer more often than open range.
BUT, come hunting season and the rut you'd think you were in open range. It was nearly impossible to get a good tracking on your bucks during this time. Does were a different story, if i would go hunt ten times 6 times i'd see a doe.
the owner of the property had feeders but only 2 feeders had stands with open shots. we used those two stands for the younger kids. everywhere other stand was just along roads, and open area.

I don't do any deer hunting but I have more respect for the guys putting in the time/effort to hunt public land/open range leases than I do for the four 200+ score high-fenced mounts hanging in my dad's office. Seems like cheating to me.

I've worked in 3 separate high fenced clubs, and the deer will walk up to you half of the time

you should see the large rainbow trout I caught at the New Orleans boat show pool as a kid. That is a trophy. May be a Louisiana record

Only counts if it was a barb-less hook

Let me start by saying I've never been on a paid hunt other than for ducks (No, not the tame mallard kind in the middle of piney woods).
Personally if it's 1,000+ acres and as long as it isn't a penned up animal and on a leash after it's shoved through a cattle shoot it's some what of an accomplishment and don't have a problem with.
Can it really be any worse than some of those deer killed in Kansas or Missouri? They're on a 500 acre "farm" with 30 acres of a wooded draw that goes through the middle of the property and it's 200 yards deep at it's widest point. Once the crops have been cut where the hell else are the deer going to be at? Sure it's not high fenced but everything surrounding the property is more agriculture land.

I could see the reward in owning the property, managing and growing the deer, harvesting monsters and allowing friends and family to come kill quality deer.
Just randomly paying to go shoot a deer behind a high fence doesn't seem rewarding at all.

Yeah. High fence hunting, you actually have to figure out where the deer will be and make a good shot. A starved 10lb bass in a stocked pond will hit a bare bream hook.

yeah i totally agree with this and i don't see anything wrong with it, but i'll also say that it doesn't feel as much like hunting.
everyone chooses how easy they want to make hunting on themselves, and there's nothing wrong with stacking the deck in your favor if you've got the time and money to do it. it takes a lot of hunting and tracking and patterning skill to kill a free range deer without cameras and feeders. but that doesn't mean it's wrong to use cameras and feeders. same goes for fences.

It depends if it's a 100 acre high fence or a 5000 acre high fence with a lot of woods and rough terrain. It definitely wouldnt be like shooting cows then. A place that big just keeps neighbors from killing everything and lets deer reach their genetic potential. I'm indifferent on the subject. I won't knock someone for it, but it's ridiculous people paying $15000 to shoot a genetically enhanced, tagged, buck in a small fence. I don't think they should count towards any records or big buck contest. Anyway, basically I'm saying not all high fences are created equally.

Sounds like a bunch of jealous queer hunters in here. I personally don't give a damn what anyone does with their time or money. Yall act as if it takes zero ability to manage a heard even inside of a high fence.

There's a big difference between all 3 of those
