Good article

The excuse has, for years, been rather absurd. But now it's just plain ludicrous.

"It's still football season."

If that's your rationale for passing on the opportunity to witness potentially a once-in-a-lifetime talent – and judging by the number of empty seats liberally sprinkled throughout the Smoothie King Center at New Orleans Pelicans' home games there are thousands who must feel this way on any given night – then it's your loss.

Agreed, tickets are cheap and it's a good relaxing thing to go to any night of the week. No games are on during football so that's just a lame excuse. Anyone who doesn't go, shame on them. This team is good and deserves the support. All the games thus far have been close and exciting and the only blow outs have been in our favor, which to me is exciting.

Side note, I heard someone refer to the SKC as The Blender. I can dig it.

Win some games

The last thing the Pels need is some two bit writer calling out fans.

I'm glad he wrote the article for PR reasons, but give me a break with the we suck as fans nonsense from the PT board. We haven't even been in the playoff race in March in over 3 years. We're 15th in attendance atm. Give it time. That 07-08 crowd was phenomenal. The MT/DC crowds were phenomenal. Do people forget the 07-08 season where everywhere you looked businesses had "go hornets" on their signs etc. We aren't a terrible basketball city. Most of NOLA is not masochists like the diehard fans on these boards.

This team shows it's real. It's going to get booming in the SKC.

We have the Cheapest tickets on avg for the league, it's pretty lame that more people aren't coming to games.

Couldnt agree more but the fact of the matter is that NOLA is a football town until the Saints are done. Only way for attendance numbers to up is for this team to stay healthy and keep winning

Since I moved away from LA, I have had to resort to streaming to catch Pelicans games since they are never national here.

1. Small market
combined with
2. Much more of a football sports culture
combined with
3. Misconceptions/prejudices about NBA
combined with
4. Losing

That said, if they win and contend, fans will come. That's been established in
N.O.

The best and most dynamic athlete in NOLA is 21 years old, and he has all the makings to be as talented and well put together as anyone out there. AD is the deal, on and off the court.

The guys in my office have never heard of Eric Gordon or Tyreke Evans. They only know that the guy with the uni brow is pretty good.

You all might dismiss it, but as soon as football season is over and everyone sees how great this team is, the bandwagon will be overflowing. You can take that to the bank.

That is unless pelican fans don't alienate the shite out of them before they get a chance.

Remember '07-'08-'09, hornets fans were coming out of every crack and seem in the city chanting cp3 mvp. It will happen.

This really isn't a "New Orleans fans suck" thing but an issue across the entire NBA. The attendance numbers haven't been stellar for most of the markets in the NBA. The bottom line is that once the Pels start winning consistently, the fans will come. For the record, this will be the year where we turn the corner and convince the fan base that we are legit. Let's keep in mind that it wasn't too long ago that the beloved Saints were consistently at risk of games being blacked out. Winning cures all woes.
