I'm not sure there is much you can do other than call the guy a piece of shite....because he likely is.
Maybe I'm just a dog lover but my first thought wouldn't be to shoot a damn dog in my front yard. I would send the kids (if I had any) and my dogs inside, then see what the is up with this dog.....that has a collar on.....

I don't believe the guy's story.
I've got guns close by all the time, but shooting
a neighbor's dog isn't on my bucket list.

Is your neighbor MJ2?

Did the dog have on a collar? This is important...

Well, you've gotta give that Dalmatian credit for staying in the game.

Lots of men need to grow a set that have responded in this thread.

It is where I live. The charge is cruelty to an animal. Laws differ in ares.

The Dalmatian had better lower body strength than I expected and it allowed him to get more leverage post tackle. Remember if you're ever wrestling a Dalmatian that the toughest part is the length. Those suckers can stretch out over 6ft.

Neighbor should have had his bitch fixed, same for GF's dog.

You can play what ifs all day. The fact of the matter is dude lied, shot a dog and let him suffer.

Tell your neighbor he is frickwit for letting his dog out in the front yard when she is in heat.
Couldn't the same be said about his girlfriend who didn't properly secure the dog?
Yea, it is sad that her dog was shot, and perhaps for no good reason. However, this is why you make sure that your dogs are properly secured if you leave them unattended.

Girlfriend hears gunshot in her neighborhood. Notices her australian shepherd is missing.
Just how often did her dog leave her yard? Someone that has a dog in a place where they know its safe wouldn't immediately assume it was their dog that got shot.

So their property rolls up on your property and threatens your property...how to properly deal with it for propriety?

I can pretty much guarantee the GF lives outside the city limits.
The cop couldn't follow simple logic so he took the guy's story at face value, wrote some unintelligible scribbles in a report, and went back to fighting "real crime".

Doubt you would have a case, but it may be worth the assault charge to go beat his arse.
It wouldn't be worth the charge, but it's fun to think about.

I doubt in this case that the OP's g/f can receive anything in damages. Best case scenario if she can I think she would just receive compensation for the cost of the dog right? Like any type of property?
I would be more concerned about some guy in my neighborhood that is cool with shooting guns in his front yard....depending on the spacing of the houses I guess.

You're in Mississippi? Go get his dog pregnant. That'll show his arse.

Kill his dog secretly. Make chili with dog. Offer him chili as peace offering.
Then laugh and tell him he just ate his dog.

I'm surprised they didn't arrest the guy for impersonating an officer...
