I have both in my refrigerator but the mayonnaise is way past its expiration date. I prefer Miracle Whip but it doesn't bother me to use mayo.

I have friends that take this argument more seriously than politics. One day I was cooking at one of their houses. I was doing the cooking and they were doing the buying.

My friend - a female - calls and tells me "you know I love you Tiger Ree, but I just couldn't bring myself to buy Miracle Whip at the grocery store. If you want it you will have to bring some from home or stop and get some on your way." I was like WTF but knowing her for as long as I had I knew she dead serious.

Her brother is the same way and won't even say Miracle Whip. He calls it "SALAD DRESSING". His wife prefers MW and buys it. He keeps putting it in the very bottom shelf of the refrigerator door. His wife has accused him of throwing it away before.

Another friend in Houston had tried unsuccessfully to make a sauce his mother would make to eat with seafood. His was okay but just not quite like his mom's. I was at his house the day he called to verify the recipe. During the conversation he got a weird look on his face and said "but ya'll hate miracle whip." She told him that yeah they do but the sauce only tastes right with MW and that was the recipe she was given. She must have bought it, used it once for the sauce, and thrown it away every time. I spent a lot of time at their house growing up, like miracle whip and never saw any in their house.

I like some Miracle whip from time to time. Especially on bologna and cheese sandwhiches.

I grew up eating Miracle Whip and it was my preference until 5 or 6 years ago. I had a burger somewhere with mayo on it and I said to myself, Zappa, you need to eat mayo more often.

Miracle Whip is to mayo what Country Crock is to butter.

I'm reaching for the Hellman's for most things. I prefer it to the Duke's.

Miracle Whip is for white beans and bacon or bologna sandwiches.

For me, the same as the last time this was posted.

Mayo.

Remain hopeful my preference will not have changed any at all when this question is posted again a month from now.

As an offshoot and not a hijack

Who makes the best burger in LA and where should I buy a slice of pizza in NO this next weekend?

Best Poboy?

Were should I go for oysters?

Sorry - the strain of whether to add slap yo momma to my boiled peanuts tonight is pressing hard on me.

At the moment I am still at no, but moving more toward a change of heart with each passing moment.

We use Mayo Lite (low fat). Mayo is not for taste. It's for texture. IE, if I make a ham sammich with chopped onions and hot peppers the mayo is just to keep the sammich from being too dry.

I don't think there's as big of a difference as some of you are making it out to be. I grew up using mayo but the wife prefers MW, so now I use MW. Like Zach said it's for texture more than flavor, so MW or Mayo doesn't really change my sandwiches that much.

Mayo-homemade, Hellman's, Blue Plate, Duke's in that order.

I have a recipe for cornbread salad which calls for Miracle Whip. It works in that, but the next time I make it, I'm going to try Blue Plate because I end up throwing out the rest of the MW. I don't care for the flavor by itself very much.

I could eat good mayo from a spoon. Has plenty of flavor to me. I don't use it only for texture. Made potato salad last night and I licked the spoon when I was done.

For me, there's Hellmans and then there's everything else. It's my favorite condiment.
