Tell me why I should feel sorry for long term unemployed who don't want to move?

6-figure oil jobs lead to massive shortage of home builders

It's amazing to me that liberals want to kill the oil industry and their jobs. Already did it to coal.

You don't have to feel sorry for them, but they may have family obligations that means taking care of or looking after sick or elderly family members. They may have children who have special needs who would be disrupted if they move. They may lack the money to move. It can take a few thousands dollars to rent and pack up a U-Haul and take your family and take care of the various expenses to move.
Some people may have obligations to their church and feel a calling from the Lord to stay in their community. Some may be divorced and do not want to move away from their children and not have the frequent visits that are important.

Not true. We mine more coal now than we did 30 years ago.

With 100k, they can move too.

About the only valid point without a clear answer.

I don't.
You go where the work is.

I doubt we burn anywhere near as much coal after Boiler MACT.
Not that it matters because natural gas is the substitute product, and I stand to gain from higher prices.

IMO, the people that are ok with long term unemployment don't care about most of those things mentioned. Church, kids, elderly family to take care of should push someone to have some type of income.

I feel sorry for people with severe handicaps, either physical or mental, who cannot secure employment. The unemployed who are capable of work are off my compassion radar.

Well they're not unemployed due to lack of job opportunities then. They have other obligations. Which is fine. But don't complain about lack of wages.

Many make the sacrifice to be separated from their families while they work. You don't have to move your family.

Great. Church community can help out then.

I agree that it sucks. But when it comes down to it some have made this sacrifice so they can better support their families while others sit on their arse complaining.

Wow, a political post of yours that I mostly agree with.

How does being unemployed, without income, help meet those obligations?

And some would seek the Lord in finding a new way to make a living. Some times you have to take a job that pays money and bills instead of waiting for the job you want comes up. The Lord said to do good work.

I don't maybe, maybe because you don't want to be a heartless a hole?

Let's see if you have a family member with stage III or IV cancer it's not that easy. They have doctors that they have built relationships with and moving with Stage IV cancer even if you have a year to live and money is very, very difficult and almost impossible given the care needs especially in the final months which last years. So tell a family how they can move someone who needs monthly or bi-weekly chemotherapy and is in pain and on the pain patches or medicine drips for pain about moving who needs a walker or can't even walk.
If you have family members with dementia or in a nursing home it is very difficult to move. Let's see you move a family member with dementia and pay the medical transport costs and the shear difficulty of doing it.

Someone may be called by the Lord to minister in this one place. When God calls you and Jesus Christ comes to you and asks you to stay and be an active member of your local church and community you follow Jesus.

I don't like to talk in absolutes but usually anybody that is long term unemployed and either doesn't move, change careers or go back to school to increase their education level so that they can get a better shot at a job is a POS.

I am guessing that "can earn" doesn't mean that everyone who drives a rig is earning that on normal time, or at all. Also not everyone has a truck license or is cut out for driving a rig.

I feel bad for those that don't want to move but ultimately do, even if it takes some time. At the same time, I do acknowledge that there are legitimately difficult circumstances that may not make a move so reasonable (e.g., needing to care for a sick relative).

My dad had cancerous tumor on his larynx and I left the university and went home to help. In order to help I took a job doing hotel maintenance. Stayed for ten years and worked all ten at varying jobs. Whatever it took to make money I did. God gives us gifts of all sorts and we should always make good use of them.
