Why Should We Think that LSU Will Compete for a NC in 2015?

I am not trying to be pessimistic, but we lose a bunch on the OLine and both DEs. Dural probably goes pro. Mills will be gone. Will the middle of our defense get better?

We are saying that Harris, Fournette, Dupre, and Quinn having another year under their belts will make us a NC contender. I don't see it.

We are weak on the lines and our scheme is terrible. What will one more year do to make us contenders next year? Where is the strength coming from? How do we fix the defense?

If the team gells and suddenly steps up and we win some of these games coming up and finish 8-4 or so, then okay. Maybe we can make the jump next year. But, if we are only as good as we looked against State and Auburn and we lose the guys we are going to lose for next year, then where does the improvement come from to suddenly vault us into the National Title conversation?

I am asking.

Because there is not a better coach in the country at bouncing back than les. Just compare 2012 to 2013.

I've been saying all offseason that 2015 was going to be the year, but now I'm crawfishing on that big time. Unless there is significant improvement from the defense next year's team won't win shite. I don't care how "exciting" people think high flying offenses are, you don't win championships without defense. Just ask Chip Kelly, Rich Rodriguez, Kevin Sumlin, etc.

Because all of our problems will be fixed by next year. Depth and expierence. We won't miss roscoe, hunter can benefit by coming back. mills could benefit another year. Linebackers will be the same unit minus welter. All of our skill positions return outside Hillard and Magee.

the OP is correct. With all the problems we have this year, and another year of graduation/draft losses on both sides of the ball, I'm not seeing anything close to a title run. Hopefully we'll be better, of course, but I'm not understanding the championship talk.

Because its cyclical. LSU is GUARANTEED to make the MNC game simply because they went to the 'ship in '03, '07, and '11. That's how Les Miles plans and plots his success.

inb4 somebody mentions that Auburn went from 0-8 in conference to 13-1 and the Title Game in one year?

Not saying it's LIKELY, but nevertheless is proven to be POSSIBLE...

I hate it, but you're correct. To me, it's not the losses on the OL that will be the problem. It's the terrible offensive scheme we run. It's wasn't good enough to win in 2011 and it won't be in 2015 either. frick it pisses me off.

The OL will be better next season. La'el is the only one that will be missed in the slightest. The new OL starters will be more suited to what Grimes wants with his Zone Blocking techniques. I expect Dodd to be the starting Center with Pocic and Clapp in there somewhere. You've got to have OL's that can quickly pick up their assignments on the fly and know who they're teaming up with in the correct "Zone." Individual size and strength are not as important as "Team Work." Recruiting the right type of OL is crucial to this. Agility and Football Smarts are critical in Zone.

I would be more worried about the stigma LSU will get for having a team SO TALENTED they may finish 6-6... Does this mean that Miles is a horrible recruiter or just a bad coach as far as player development???? I really don't know how talented this team is..... And why would we expect anything different next year.............

Make this thread at the end of the year. We need to see two things:

1. How Harris and the defense progress throughout the season
2. Who stays and who leaves early

I think that we will more likely going to be a dark horse in 2015 and a legit contender in 2016.
