Racism is just plain wrong then and now. But teaching it to kids is over the line totally.

Uh, so if I teach my kids to avoid MLK, Cedar Grove, Queensborough or Lakeshore in Shreveport at night then I am way over the line? Really?

Other than assisting the racist agendas of people like Jeremiah Wright Toure, etc, what constructive purpose is served by pretending it is 1956?

We have both a President and and Attorney General who are race-baiting scumbags, and I'm supposed to be concerned about some old cartoons?

White on black racism doesn't exist. Not now - and certainly not 50 years ago when everything was so much better than now.

Sheesh. Econ 101. Duh.

Nobody said there wasn't racism 50 years ago, you idiot.

My question is, what purpose is served by pretending that conditions are still the same as they were 50 years ago?

Of course, I realize im communicating with a brainwashed dweeb who responded to legitimate concerns about the imam in Oklahoma by going on an anti-Christian tirade.

It's really hard not to despise you, tuba. You're a waste of space.

Which makes me ask why are jimmies being rustled here.

Is someone threatening to bring back this style of cartoon?

Ah, good ol mammie two shoes. She was the housekeeper for several episodes. A large black woman with an apron, seen from the neck down, with large busoms and light palms.

I always thought she was funny. As a kid I never thought it made black women look bad. It was just a caricature-"ha, it's a stern black lady!"
That was all. At the time in the 30's and 40's I'm sure there were a lot of black maids and no offense was meant by it.

She actually made the show a lot better imo

Pic for those who haven't seen (also Tom and Jerry is one of the highest quality cartoons, I'll still watch if I happen upon it)

You can find this on just about any torrent site or other people will download it and burn it on a DVD for you. Check ebay.

I actually got a copy of "Song of the South" last year from a friend of a friend who 'smuggled' it out of Europe.

Racial overtones aside, it's not one of Disney's better efforts - very, very cheesy.

I don't know. I never watched Tom and Jerry. The clip showed her as walking into the kitchen. I guess that caused Tom and Jerry to continue some sort of plot. It was really low level humor. I preferred Rocky and Bulwinkle.

Rocky and Bullwinkle. True story taking a class at LSU Russian Culture. Prof says biggest Russian was Boris Godunov. I crack up and yell out Boris Badanov from Rocky and Bullwinkle. Calls being of the same age loves it.

It was the perfect cartoon format for the cold war period. Boris was the agent of Fearless Leader.

My favorite line:

Bullwinkle to a U.S. govt agent: Who are you?
Agent in trench coat: Army Intelligence.
Bullwinkle: Sounds like a contradiction in terms.

This shite is ridiculous. Cartoons are supposed to be ridiculous, funny and a play on stereotypes. People should stop being offended so easily. Those cartoons were the glory days of cartoons..,hell of a lot better than the stupid unfunny shite they have today. Only good ones today are South Park and Family Guy

She always reminded me of a woman that worked for my grandmother. A fantastic woman who was stern with me when I was little, guess I'm a racist for this...

This stuff is getting out of hand. They can show women in little to nothing on prime time television yet they are going back to "Tom and Jerry" to find racism like it's the worst thing on the television.

I don't understand what the big outrage is here, just more diverting attention from the true problems out there I guess.

It's hands down the greatest cartoon without dialog from the main characters.

Ignorance is bliss.

Portraying things as they are or as they are believed to be is and has always been the way comics and cartoons display the obvious.

The stiff white guy is the butt of millions of jokes as is the greedy Jew, ss is the dumb Polak, as is the Italian thug.

I seen plenty of cartoons with the Italian guy as the crook etc.

Time to get a pity party started for the liberal crybabies.
