You should cut a notch on the stock before you sell it though.

but

FWIW if you just feel weird about he weapon, take the trigger mechanism or firing pin out and allow one of the hunters ed classes to use it do discuss safe storage of firearms and possible consequences of stolen weapons. Or sell it to the cops at a gun for cash trade in.

I should mention that though they found it w/o a round in the chamber, it had one there when they stole it!

As long as the barrel doesn't taste any different, I don't see a problem

That's really the only logical thing that can happen, might as well sell it to me.

I had a handgun stolen in Louisiana and recovered in Tennessee a month later. I fought with them for about 5 yrs before I actually got it shipped back to me. Was a pain, but I stayed on them. I would get livid on the phone with them. At first they said I had to come there and get it. My and the family went to visit family in Memphis one weekend. I called the department on Friday letting them know I would be there around 2 pm. They said it would be best to come on a Tuesday. It went like that for a long time. I finally got Jefferson Parish PD involved. That was when I finally got them to ship it.

I've got a couple of ww2 german rifles a relative brought back that almost definitely dispatched russian soldiers and possibly more at some point. I never have had a problem with keeping them. Same with ww2 garands and other weapons, although the op might be different because of the suicide stigma.

This one is mine. Had been missing for nearly three years.......turns up in a pre-schoolers backpack. Teacher found it during naptime. Nobody ran the numbers...I noticed it on the front page of the paper and called the Chief of Police. "Thats my gun!" Pulled out my receipt and drove up to the PD and claimed it!

I hate to hear that this upsets you...but honestly, I am betting that the dude that offed himself is the same one that stole your gun in the first place...so good riddance...
