Build the team around pitching. That would be a great looking staff and if we could get some timely hitting, this could be a very quick rebuild. That staff alone would make the Braves competitive.

If we can somehow get our hands on some outfield prospects that are near major league ready for Gattis/J UP, then you could be talking about a very quick "rebuild". The infield should be solidified besides 3rd base. Bethancourt, Freeman, Simmons, Peraza should be around for a while.

Would be an extremely expensive mentor but Lester could be great for the development of Teheran, Wood, Miller and Minor. Not to mention he would still be solid when 2017 rolls around.
I don't think we'll get him, but it doesn't hurt to bring in the hometown boy. If we do sign him, then it sticks with the Shelby Miller move in it being a move for this year AND the years beyond.
Would be a very good 5 of Lester, Teheran, Miller, Wood, & Minor. No matter what the lineup ends up looking like, we'll be competitive those that group.
But as I said, highly unlikely we end up landing him.

I don't think it's likely either. That said, Jason Heyward was traded yesterday.

It's certainly not likely, but good that we are doing our due diligence on him. His house is apparently only 30 minutes from Turner, so maybe there is a small chance he would take a minor discount to be around his family year-round.

I just still find it funny that we don't even approach Heyward about an extension, but now we are meeting with the most expensive FA out there. I'm calling BS. Lester lives in ATL so I guess this is a cheap and easy "meeting" for both sides.

Oh wait you guys seriously think we're getting Lester?
Eta: Have a even a remote shot at getting him I should say.

But seriously we have way bigger issues on offense and would be a huge waste of money when our team is hitting with a .230 average

Why? We clearly didn't value Heyward at the price he was going to bring.

I phrased it wrong, but to even float his name out there is stupid.
Posted on 11/18/14 at 11:54 am to okietiger
It's being floated because the Braves are bringing him in for a visit. So while it's not likely to happen, that gives people a legitimate reason to speculate.

If Lester wants to stay close with a discounted / backloaded deal - you never know. Of course, that also means trading Minor and his 5M salary which is fine by me.

On phone and can't link, but I just read on MLBTR that the Indians want to move Swisher's contract.
BJ for a bullpen arm and Swisher?
I would also think about moving Gattis and Carpenter to KC for Dyson and Herrera.
I want to keep JUp long term

Jonny Venters and Ramiro Pena designated for assignment.
Brandon Cunniff, Yean Carlos Gil, Kyle Kubitza, Williams Perez, Mauricio Cabrera and Jose Peraza added to the 40 man roster.

Why would the Tribe even consider doing Upton for Swisher?

Why do you want Dyson? Cause he can run fast? He is a below average offensive player. Trading relievers is so fickle.
