It seems the strategy right now is to be super conservative run right at the other team to eventually wear them down and take over in the second half.

That is exactly our philosophy. And it is Exactly the right philosophy needed for this year's team that basically has a first-year starter at QB and freshman at every skill position. The offense will get "prettier" as we develop, but for now our bread and butter is, As it should be, the power run game.

I'm surprised anyone could want to do it differently. There is no other way IMO.

i'd imagine in a sane world, we'd use our shite opponents like ULM to give our young offensive players experience in running a real offense

we can always go back to conservative les ball and just bully opponents

there are plenty of other ways
we're losing an opportunity to have them learn in game situations. last night was a wasted game in terms of development

So 31 points is now considered "low".

Jesus...

10 nothing at half is low scoring

Teams like A$M and AU score that midway thru the first quarter regardless of competition

You do realize that these guys take reps against our 1st team Defense during scrimmages? No amount of reps against a ULM style defense is going to translate into success against an SEC worthy defense.

A&M halftime score against Rice was 21-7 fwiw (7-0 at end 1st).

They won by 28 Pts in the end (38-10 final score).

You're not dense to believe that live game action is comparable to practice. Please tell me you're not

Finally, some sense.

If the short passing game really is bad after fall camp, practices and three games I highly doubt practicing it against ULM is going to help much. Not to mention slowing down the game and risking potential injury to the receiving corp in a game that we could have won by running 80 times and kicking 2 field goals.

If Cam Cameron and Les Miles, two very successful football coaches, don't want to work on it during the game, that's good enough for me.

They are see the previous post. I think they also believe we scrimmage every week. Anyone with any football knowledge will tell you live reps are better than reps in practice . You hear ex D1/NFL players saying it every week...it was said last night.

our running game is a known commodity. our running game is depending on true freshmen following the blocking scheme, recognizing the holes and hitting them. both need work on this.

Lol okay, that must be why we were only up 10 points at half.

It surely appeared Les called the plays for the first three offensive series.

the problem is, when they face competition that can properly scheme for their offenses, they have no answer and will generate a bunch of 3 and outs while taking virtually no time off the clock.

16PA 1st half, not counting sacks and scrambles isn't exactly conservative.
Also no matter who was in control, even the vanilla wasn't executed very well first half.
