I get a feeling that this game ended up getting played like a scrimmage where the staff was trying to work on tightening up the plays that are going to be their strengths for the rest of the year.

I am not the type to buy into "Saving the playbook for the SEC rivals" conspiracy theories either. One reason that I say this is because they ran a number of pass plays out of the double TE I-form where there was really only one route runner. I only see that kind of thing when Les is feeling frisky because the defense is disrespecting the pass with a super stacked box.

They also ran that quick hand off to the FB way too many times for my liking but Williams does seem to e the best FB for that play. I loved his leg power tonight. I got the feeling that they wanted to see him run that play strong and earn their trust with it.

There were other reasons but you get the point. I just think that they used this game to fine tune their strengths for the start of the SEC slate.

Our only issue on O now is figuring out how reliable/trustworthy/consistent Jennings and the passing game can be.and that's just a natural growing process with a young inexperienced QB
no we also have online problems.

1) Wis - Les first half , Cam second half
2)SMS - Cam called
3) ULM - All Les

I think Les has always made it clear that he wants lilly white vanilla for non SEC opponents. That's always been the same, no matter who his OC has been. He let Cam open it up in SEC play last year. I think he will again.

I would tend to agree...

The thing is that against these weaker opponents we have the opportunity to practice the short passing game and iron out any kinks.

Les Does this crap every year. Most frustating thing abput him. Lets see young Qb needs short passing work lets run the ball 80% of the game.

Oh, you mean the winningest tenure in school history? Yes, I did see a striking resemblance: 31-0.

Also, maybe you didn't notice, but we were playing ULM. No need to get creative with the offense when you can pound it down your opponent's throat all night.

There you go interjecting common sense into this argument.
I can't recall using this many freshmen/red shirt freshmen in a game in my recollection. He's bring them long as fast as he can.

We need to work on the passing game...our running game is a known commodity. Why would you wait to get reps on the short-intermediate passing game until SEC play when every play counts? These are the types of games to do that. Instead Les/Cam line up in 80% Power-I and most of the only pass plays were out of PA

Maybe we aren't as bad at short passes as our fanbase thinks. Or maybe Les was just trying to win the football game, ULM is hardly SHSU

I go based on what my eyes have seen. We struggle on slants and curls.

The truth is, you really don't know. Based on your posting trend in this topic, if it's something you don't like, the Les did it. If it's something good, then someone else did it. Just say you don't like Les and move on.

Guess we need to hire leach so you would be a happy pass happy fan, again...defense and strong rushing attack wins championships, a proven fact...
Since this was a "glorified" fan paying & on TV scrimmage, I like the way the Tigers played. We got the win, got some meaningful reps for our "young" team, and played solid "D"...

our running game is depending on true freshmen following the blocking scheme, recognizing the holes and hitting them. both need work on this.

Offense is going to have to open it up more if we are going to have any success in conference play. It seems the strategy right now is to be super conservative run right at the other team to eventually wear them down and take over in the second half. I don't think our D is good enough for this strategy to work. Eventually we will put ourselves in a hole we won't be able to dig out of like almost happened against wisconsin
