Looks like they were flash frozen in place. All dead.

No spray, out in the woods checking game cameras and MallardMaster and I came across this.

Just a guess, but looks like a fungi that attracts insects

I could see that, there's fibrous hairs growing out of the wasps

I dunno, but whatever it is we need to find out. Quick. And spread the hell out if it.

Whoever is poaching your land sprayed them

this is what i'm guessing, they're simply helping KR with his devil bug problem

damn, I have never seen anything like that...looks to be some parasite has infected the nest. I am not sure why they all died at once and appear to have not moved since, though...

I would be scared to spray that nest with any type of spray.

Cut it down and clear coat it.

That's what we don't understand. It's like they're frozen in time. If they were sprayed they would have fallen off the nest.

i can't imagine y'all would have frost early one morning, let me send the pic to my bee guy and see what he thinks..

Why aren't they burning? They should be burning.
As for what happened to them, a type of "mind controlling" fungus. Basically the fungus develops inside the wasp and when the time is right, modifies the wasp's behavior so that it becomes more conducive to spreading the spores of the fungus. Basically that fungus caused the wasps to cling to the nest (elevated area) before killing them where the spores would spread easier. Cordyceps species that infects ants and turns them into "zombies" too.
