If that motorcycle was an 18 Wheeler, you would be advocating his hanging. But because you drive a bike, and bikes are smaller than cars, you're treating this guy with kid gloves.

I agree. And I think people are getting too hung up on the issue of assigning blame here. What we ALL should take from this is to follow the speed limits and pay close attention to our surroundings no matter if we are on a bike or in a car. Bottom line is we all have loved ones and they all want us to arrive safe at wherever we're going and we want them same for them. That guy you see out there may just be an "idiot biker" or a "stupid cager", but to someone else they're daddy, brother, son, or husband.

So, you only look for cycles doing the speed limit? You ignore those that are going over the speed limit?
As a driver you are supposed to look out for everything on the road. If a plane is landing on the road, you should be on the look out for it and do all you can to avoid a collision.
Nah, it's always someone else's fault only. They can't be bothered with that kind of stuff.

His speed is definitely an issue, but why they are releasing it is a good lesson for drivers no matter his speed.
Drivers not paying attention pull in front of bikes doing at or under the limit all the time and kill/injure people. Hell people run over bikes at red lights by simply not seeing them stopped. People need to pay more attention when driving their cars.

Why would I do that?

No I'm not. The guy was a dumbass. That doesn't remove fault from the person that actually caused the collision.

This is indicative of most bikers around the world.
They want to live by the sword, but die of old age.

Yep. A combination of mistakes by both drivers caused the wreck. No need to give an exact percentage.

Shouldn't that say warning you're about to watch a person die a brutal death?
While watching 2 minutes of video prior to the collision, could you not determine what you are about to see?

Except it's completely false. No one said the biker wasn't at fault. You guys are trying real hard to argue something that no one said.

is that what he thought? or was he just going over the speed limit. i have gone that fast before, and you probably think i deserve to die since i think i am above the law.
If it was on a public road with traffic, I think you're an inconsiderate douche. If on a track, not so much

i'm going to stereotype for a second here. (not directed at you darth...i know your type and i know you ride responsibly)
- immature 20ish year old (check)
- male (check)
- overhorsepowered bike (check)
- adrenaline issues - riding way too fast (check)
- generally a reckless bike rider who thinks his skills are MAD but doesn't consider basic laws of physics or that everyone else in vehicles isn't at his level of riding/driving/masterful accident avoidance expertise (check)
- spectacular high speed bike vs car death (check)

But the car should have seen him.
I've had motorcycles pass me at that speed and speeds much higher than they should have on the interstate. I've checked my mirrors, seen nothing, and then went to change lanes a few times right on top of motorcycle drivers like this. Why? Because they were swerving in an out of lanes - check one mirror then the other - but guess what? By the time you switch mirrors they are no longer in view because they are flying and weaving.
To say a car should have anticipated and seen a vehicle with that small of a profile flying at 97 mph faster than him, relatively speaking, is a little ridiculous.

If the guy driving the car would have said that he did see the bike but thought he had time to make the turn then there is a very high probability that he wouldn't have been found guilty of anything. There's a good chance that even seeing the bike, the driver of the car would have made the turn due to not being able to judge 100mph bike coming and thinking he had time to turn. Speed is the deciding factor here but the fact that the car driver said he didn't see him automatically assigns him some guilt.

I was with you until this. You have no idea the skill he has(had).
Otherwise pretty spot on. Still took the other driver to have the collision though.

This story is irrelevant. The biker was coming straight on and no checking of mirrors was necessary.

exactly my point..judging by how he was handling the bike in that 30 second video clip i'd say he felt confident enough that he could go 100mph on a busy highway.

Yea but you're still missing the point. The driver could have 100% been paying attention and was just caught completely off guard by the bike's speed. People pull out/across in front of others all the time and it usually works out just fine if everyone is going a reasonable speed.

This happened 5 miles from my house on a road I drive down every day, it's a terrible intersection.

No one missed that point. It just doesn't absolve the driver of their frick up in causing the collision.
