Traffic light fundraisers

Need the OT's opinion on this.
The family and I were grabbing some lunch in a fairly well populated city in northern VA. We notice traffic backed up at one of the more busy intersections (about 4-6 lanes wide in each direction if you count turning lanes). No big deal we think. As we approach we see guys and gals walking around the intersection with big rubber boots asking for donations for muscular dystrophy research. Noble cause.
Light turns green and I guess this guy was really an eager beaver to donate so he proceeds as normal then stops right before the green arrow turn signal to donate and chat up the firefighter or whatever. Proceeds to get smashed from behind by another car who was trying make green light. Keep in mind it's been 3 cycles of lights at this point. Firefighters or whatever walk around the wreck and continue soliciting donations now that traffic is all but stopped and continue to take donations from stopping or slowing cars when the lights are green.
What say the OT?

Should be illegal IMO
It's a public nuisance and dangerous

very very common in NOLA. If I'm in a good mood I'll put a buck or two in their bucket.
Is still think panhandling of all forms should be illegal.

I've seen it less around Baton Rouge than last year...
Used to see softball teams, etc on the corners begging for money.
Dangerous, and teaches kids to beg for handouts rather than working.

The firemen do that around here. I hate it and refuse to give.
It is an expensive accident waiting to happen. There should be a statute granting drivers immunity if they accidentally hit a fireman or any other bum who is dumb enough to beg in the damned street.

I'd wager only about 5-10% of what you donate goes to the actual "cause" you are donating to. Total scam.

Should be illegal. I hate the parents making their kids pander for some type of baseball tourney. Stop begging and work for the money.

I don't donate to this shite - if you want my money then at least do me a favor and wash my car or clean my windows.

I don't agree with the begging aspect of it as well. At least sell something to make the money.

Effing This!
Sell jambalaya or wash cars... I hate the message this sends to kids... You want something, go beg for it.
I was approached by a young Panther from Woodlawn's football team. He was selling those shitty discount cards. I was so impressed with his manners and demeanor I bought one . Also because I graduated from there many moons ago.
I'll never give money to someone begging.

You see Keanu Reeves and his inner city little league time all the time on Florida Boulevard in Baton Rouge.
