Saying well he's a politician just says to me that the criticism for Rand should be even harsher as he should he held to a higher standard than entertainers.

Criticizing the President on foreign soil was called treasonous by right wing media/leaders/rank in file. Where are they now? I guess when you don't like the President it's okay for your respect for the office to go out the window?

Conservatives constantly play the patriotism card, but this incident (once again) shows that a lot of you are pure I deology over country. It's hypocritical and pathetic.

The Dixie chicks got slammed because of both the timing and because 1)they're entertainers and 2)their audience shared much different views overall. If Natalie Main was a senator no one would have noticed nor would there have been much concern if she was some openly leftist grunge/alt singer or something.

It'd be like the Duck Dynasty suddenly coming out of the closet. Well kinda.

i agree the right is particularly hypocritical in their criticisms of the right.

but the do not criticize a president based on location is just fricking retarded rule these days. obama's presidency is in no jeopardy as much as the right likes to bloviate on impeaching him.

How'd that work out for Mitt?

If Rand gets an extra 4% of the black vote and 4% of the hippie vote by slinging poop, I'm all for it. I know where he stands, ends justify the means

Sound familiar?

On the real, would love to see Rand have bills where more Repub's veto than Dem's. Will be entertaining.

It is hack bullshite posts like this that make me think less of you.

There is no backlash because a large portion of conservatives hate the Bush foreign policy, hate the Bush domestic policy, and generally despise much of what came about as a result of the Bush administration. The Tea party formed towards the end of the Bush tenure as a result of this and much of the real criticism directed at Obama has stemmed from his continuation or expansion of Bush era policies.

The fact is that posts like yours means either you can't or won't be intellectually honest regarding the shift in attitudes in this country from 2001 to now while Obama's "evolution" on issues seems perfectly reasonable.

False premise. The truth is, Paul's foreign policy is much more closely aligned with Obama's than with hawk Republican's. LINK Contrast that with the Dixie Chicks who were diametrically opposed to Bush:
“Just so you know, we’re on the good side with y’all. We do not want this war, this violence, and we’re ashamed that the president of the United States is from Texas.”

And honestly after multiple internet searches, I can't find even a remotely close analogous statement by Paul.

Those who point out that the two situations are dissimilar seem correct to me.

Have any of the Dixie Chicks spoken out against Obama's policy of massive drone strikes against terror suspects and the significant loss of collateral innocent life resulting therefrom?

If not, there's your hypocrisy right there, friend.

Ill bite:

Obama has opened himself up for international criticism by Americans because he did it first.

GWB never went out and trashed America overseas or at home.

Fast forward and Rand Paul now is attacking Obama on foreign soil, but there isn't that same righteous indignation. I guess it's okay as long as those on the right agree with the criticism.

Many people who used to be Republican now associate more with Libertarians. I know it is hard for liberals to believe but we have the ability to know when something isn't working and change. I don't know about the dixie chicks and I am not looking it up. But, maybe they were right.

When will the liberals admit to all the things that they have not had work and change? Their method is blame the right and throw more money at it.

So that means you get a free pass on everything that happened before you became a libertarian? Awfully convenient don't you think?

Yeah it's different because this time you agree with the criticism

Yeah...That's it. LINK

quote:

"America has a proud tradition of letting politics stop at the water’s edge, but Paul doesn’t think that tradition applies to him," Michael Czin, the DNC's press secretary, said in a memo to reporters. “Regardless of political party, we do not go abroad and slam our own because of policy differences.”

I'm with Drac on this.
I've destroyed all of my Rand's CD's, tore up the poster I bought at one of his concerts and threw away my Rand Paul bobble head.

Maybe because he doesn't have albums and concerts that can be boycotted?

Maybe because this isn't about a war and the Dixie Chick's criticism was more a personal attack than a critique of policy?

Terrible analogy.

Thanks, I only waste my time clicking on this board about once a year. You've helped convince me that this is too often.

Rand Paul is a Senator, his job is to talk politics...and I think Paul has a little too much "gamesmanship" for my taste...I have a gut instinct that he is self serving and slimy.

I prefer Ted Cruz, not that you'd think that is better

Fox, I love you but goddamn you're dead wrong on this and I can't wait to see the opposite become a consensus opinion. Rand is the real deal and Ted Cruz is nothing but a demagogue I happen to agree with on most issues. There's a reason Rand has access to groups that a typical republican does not. Ted Cruz is nothing more than a state politician with a chance at an appointed national position under a GOP president.
