Obviously Holder has figured out a unique way to milk the system.

Put me down in the "don't give a shite" category.

It depends on who you are. Republican - obviously no. Nancy Pelosi - of course.

I don't see how anybody could argue yes.
I'm sure some here will try though.

You didn't answer the question. It wasn't a stab at Holder although MPO is that he's a absolute joke as an AG. It was directed at ALL public officials sucking the taxpayer tit so they can live it up. Holder is just the one mentioned in the article. STAY ON TOPIC!

I'm sure you could find some pretty egregious abuses, but in theory, it doesn't bother me.

Disagree. There are certain levels of service where this is warranted. Atty Gnrl is one. All Cabinet level positions, IMHO....
We need these guys safe and available at all times... It's in the interest of the USA.
This is a stupid thread.

Maybe some very high level people like the Pres., VP, SECDEF, Sec of State. The rest of the cabinet positions can EAD.

Seriously, why would anyone get mad about this now when it's been going on for 50 years?

You answered that with your first sentence.

This will get spread on Facebook and the #tcot on Twitter, which will generate a ton of hits for the writer, which will generate ad revenue. They'll laugh all the way to the bank at all the rubes they were able to get riled up over something so trivial.

FINALLY, someone got it right

Because the Information Age has exposed more people to these abuses?
Everything isn't left vs right. It's ignorance vs enlightenment.
And to Sid, another beautiful thing about the Information Age is that people are "available" anywhere on the planet at any time. Without publicly funded private jets .

I'm sorry. When the SHTF, I want the President and his cabinet in a secure room, making important decisions for our country, over secure comms. I don't want them waiting on a BBerry connection.
The article states that Holder repaid the cost of commercial flight. If his Govt job requires more physical security, access, response time, secure comms, etc. then those costs are rightly borne by the taxpayer.
I feel this is right and proper. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

For personal trips? Absolutely, positively no. Period.
According to the article, AG Holder has to reimburse the government the cost of his flight. Sounds good in theory. In this particular instance, he is using an aircraft that will cost several thousand dollars to operate and yet only be charged the comparable cost of airfare between Washington DC and New York City. Sorry, but that is fraud, waste and abuse no matter who is in power politcally. I can guarantee, if he (or any other public official) was charged true cost of operation, they would not use the government aircraft.
For official duties? Not a problem.
