Disagree. There are certain levels of service where this is warranted. Atty Gnrl is one. All Cabinet level positions, IMHO....

We need these guys safe and available at all times... It's in the interest of the USA.

This is a stupid thread.

I agree. These cabinet positions are in line for the presidency should something crazy happen. We need them beyond the reach of dangerous people.

With that said, the article said holder's daughters and their boyfriends were passengers to the belmont stakes, in that regard, this is an interesting pic...

And BTW pretty much any SHTF event for the President is a SHTF event for the AG.

Meh. Not always.

What's rather ironic is that they spend billions on the TSA and Homeland Security to make air travel safe for all of us, but it isn't safe enough for the Attorney General?

Which is why he needs a govt. jet, to physically move him to the President, even when all commercial traffic is grounded.

Jesus Christ people. I give up.

Come on. He has one. For official use. Not for personal use. He is not a ruling class. He is a servant of the American people.

Actually it's not an entitlement for all Cabinet-level officials. I know I read an article about Tim Geithner and his detail passing unscreened through airports when he was at treasury (people were pissed that they weren't stopped). I'm sure someone can find the reg, but I believe only State, Defense, Justice, and DHS receive that kind of fulltime support.

From a security perspective, there's really nothing to be done about it unless we lock them down or charge them such exorbitant fees that they spend their entire salaries on a few flights.

FTR, I've legally used taxpayer dollars to take personal trips, and the check that I had to write was much smaller.

He had to pay $995 or just under $200 per person, which is the market price for a flight from D.C. to NYC.

Seems resonable. I wold have a hrd time justifying it for the Sec of Labor or the Head of the EPA. But I can see it for the AG, no problem.

But that single receipt makes up just part of the more than $101,000 taxpayers paid for "in-flight services" – including food and liquor, for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's trips on Air Force jets over the last two years. That's almost $1,000 per week.

Documents obtained under the Freedom of Information Act by Judicial Watch, which investigates and prosecutes government corruption, show Pelosi incurred expenses of some $2.1 million for her use of Air Force jets for travel over that time.

Now THAT is money down the drain.
