Carlos Slim, worth $79.6 billion, told a business conference in Paraguay that workers should work three days per week, 11 hours a day, and retire later

Slim: 'With three work days a week, we would have more time to relax; for quality of life.'

According to Forbes, Slim surpassed Bill Gates as the richest man in the world this week

I wonder what it must be like to hand out such noble advice and them fly away in my private jet to my own island? Also, Carlos Slim is the coolest name a billionaire could have

I personally think the concept of a 40 hr work week is beyond stupid and counter productive. I think the American obsession with work contributes to reduced quality of life, stress related health issues, etc.

Think of how much time we waste bullshitting at work in a week. If your salary was based on the amount of work you did, rather than how many hours you worked, most people would handle their business so they could go on doing something else.

coincidently, that would happen if we had more money as well....

so Carlos, if you'd like to help with my "more time to relax, you know, for quality of life" fund, then send donations to:

Nice thing about being at work is that it keeps you from spending money. For the people that don't make much money it would be really tough making ends meet while staying entertained for those 4 days off.

Does this guy actually practice what he preaches? I wonder what kind of work schedule his employees have.

Every other week I work 2 twelve hour shifts. Those weeks are fricking incredible.

However, most honest Americans are obsessed with not looking lazy so they will try to outwork anyone at the cost of killinh themselves and their personal lives.

I'd definitely work 3 11 hour days to have off the other 2 days.

If rather 3 12's and a 4. I don't be wanting no pay cut.

There are plenty of people who work 80+ hour weeks every week and love it. Some people like to work and make money. That's how guys with no education and a good work ethic can make a very good living. American dream and such.

I have no problem with this line of thought. You work to live, you don't live to work. The 5 day 40 hour work week is absurd and is just an arbitrary number that has become the standard. IMO giving someone a specified time to work, as opposed to a specified goal is counterproductive (this of course doesn't include shift workers or low skilled workers who are simply used as a body).

Spending roughly 1/3 or more of your waking hours at work is a pretty shitty life IMO.
