Yep, Gardere was pretty much the place to be for those who didn't want to live in Tigerland in 1982, when I lived there. It was fairly new and clean.

It changed rapidly, though.

Section 8

It was more than just this that did Gardere in. Section 8 was simply a response to try to save what few renters they could. It was the oil bust. And the 1986 tax reform law that restricted passive losses. This hurt residential multi-family real estate all over the gulf south.

I've been in Park Place Condominiums, where Kassie Federer was murdered, several times. I don't see how somebody can shoot someone there in broad daylight and get away with it without somebody seeing them or hearing it. I'm guessing that place didn't have the security back in 1999 like they do now.

Linking Eleanor Parker with Derrick Lee is a stretch. He was like 13 years old back then and probably never been out of West Feliciana Parish. That's a good example of how police tried to link every unsolved murder in the Baton Rouge area to DTL.

Back in the day, I don't think it had the gate around it. The next door neighbor came home and I guess bullets went through some walls and knocked some of his shite around. But what about the rest of the complex? Nobody heard gunshots? Nobody thought something was amiss?

When that golfer found those bones near the railroad tracks I recall thinking that it was probably Eleanor Parker.

Weren't there a couple of LSU students who were gunned down in their dorm/apartment a few years back as well? Foreign students, I think?

What ever happened with that case? Seems like I recall some posters on here claiming they turned out to be drug dealers or something.

Yeah, at Edward Gay Apts., Chandrasekhar Komma and Kiran Allam. There was a trial for 2 suspected shooters, but they were acquitted.

I hear you. There is a bit of a hood area behind Park Place apartments. I've lived in an area before that had a lot of gun play and have to admit that after a while you get numb to hearing gun shots because nobody ever really got shot. It's generally thugs firing off rounds in the air trying to be cool. But if shots were fired in an apartment in the court yard of Park Place I don't know how that wouldn't ring out throughout the whole complex. Somebody had to near that.

That was an old gang initiation back then, when I was at LSU. Kick a door in and shoot a white person. I had friend inside an apartment that was targeted. The shooter was a bit nervous and fricked up, and only one person was shot in the foot. The cops explained the randomness with that story.

That is not true. I was in that family at the time she went missing. Her father is J. Peyton Parker, and they are not kin to EWE.

Aren't there a few other local college-aged girls who disappeared around the time DT Lee was active?

does anybody remember when that LSU student was murdered in 1999? Her name was Kassie Lynn Federer. Somebody had kicked in her apartment door and started shooting and they never found the killer.

They know who did it.

Kassie was from Ponchatoula and its pretty common knowledge that they knew who just never could prove it.

From a couple days ago:
quote:

Recently, though, Baton Rouge police homicide detectives armed with fresh eyes and some now-expired grant funding took an unfettered look at Federer’s death and many others. And in the case of Federer, who was just weeks away from her 20th birthday when she was gunned down in September 1999, felled by a single bullet that pierced her side, investigators found a promising lead. Testing something collected from the scene, police now have an unidentified DNA profile.

So if they think they know who did it, if they can scare up some PC, they have a DNA profile to run against.

I remember the Eleanor Parker case. I have often wondered if they ever found out what happened to her.
I met her not to long before she disappeared. She seemed like a really nice person. Henry Lee Lucas was in the Baton Rouge area around that time. I often have wondered if he was involved.
