Seems like a true accident in a bad stretch of road.

There is literally about 10 ft from the white line to where these people were fishing. Just no room there.

The state spends millions overlaying roads that don't need it. Why not a simple guardrail here? If it's an accident prone area, especially.

Absolutely terrible news.

Just watched the video, looks like an incredibly dangerous place to set up to fish.

May not be the issue here...but 55 is to fast for that road. We just started building on Bluff so I've spent a good bit of time out that way over the past month. Way to many people hauling arse down that road. I stay at 45 and people are constantly flying by me.

Just passed. Bobbers still in the water. Sad, sad sight.

Agree with this. I think it recommends 35 or 45 through those curves, but 55 is probably a bit much for Bluff.

Will probably be 35 now.

55 is okay IMO, but the problem is few people obey the speed limit and there are a pile of distractions for drivers now days.

How many people safely drive that part of road every day?

Just pAssed the vehicle on a wrecker parked at the new Chabils. Made me a little sick.

Think the last death was when a lady and her baby were killed a year or two back. Drivers fault.

ETA: maybe the kid survived now that I think about it. Think she was a foreign lady, maybe asian.

I live a tenth of a mile from where this happened.

I've driven Bluff Rd for ten years without incident.

As it's name implies, it is on a bluff. Pay attention, slow down when the conditions are poor and it's just as safe or as dangerous as any two lane highway.

Today's actions will be regretted by everyone involved for the rest of their lives. Very unfortunate, but not the fault of the highway design or condition.

And I'm highly critical of road design and traffic control. Prayers offered up for the families involved.

My buddy texted me and some friends in a group text about this earlier. So sad:

ETA: My Prayers and deepest condolences to the family and those who knew those involved

Just spoke with someone I know very well that lives in the area and she said it was the same two men and same two little kids that are always out there fishing. Very sad. She was very upset as she has 3 little girls and apparently hit a little too close to home for her.

DOTD is constantly sticking its head in the sand when it comes to shite like this. Look at that intersection in Addis where Les' sister was killed 3yrs ago. They kept saying that they couldn't install a signal bc the "volumes didn't warrant it". Well, I can tell you that's horse shite bc I used to run signal warrant analyses and crash data ALWAYS trumps volumes. Pisses me off to no end. They'd rather wait until a dozen people die to fricking do anything about it.

What a terrible, heart-wrenching tragedy.

Any names to report yet?

I've lived in the area a long time and know most of the old families.

The Bluff road ended just before that waterway as you approach from the south back when I was younger.

Don't worry, the OT will soon return to it's regular scheduled programming of "Is this trashy?", "Is this beta?" and the various non-legit WYHI threads. Patience young padawan.

Based on my educated guess I would say between 10-20k counting North and South.
