Big news broke yesterday with the reveal that Shane Black has plans to "reboot" 20th Century Fox's Predator. Today, the Iron Man 3 writer and director (not to mention star of the John McTiernan original) tells Collider that his film does, indeed, tie to franchise continuity.
“Why start over, when you’ve all this rich mythology yet to mine?” Black says, adding that he can, "...really get behind inventive sequels.”

Dammit...stop. Predator is already perfect.

Everybody has already forgotten about Robocop, and Total Recall reboots. Why does Hollywood think this will be any different? The originals are classics. Don't frick with them.

will you people stop with this shite? When he botches this how does it affect your enjoyment of the first film? I get bitching about re-boots upon re-boots, but not this.

I'm hoping it's just like a continuance kind of thing and not a remake. Iron Man 3 was one of the worst movies I've seen, so I don't have that high of hopes.

I've read the script, at the end, the Predator reveals himself to be Alan Alda.

Shane Black could do a fantastic job with certain types of movies. I don't see Predator as being one of them.
Now, if they announced he had been hired to make Deadpool, I could get behind that.

You'd think he'd know better...

my complaint has nothing to do with enjoying the original. but instead of building upon a great mythology and expanding the Predator story, we will most likely get a shitty redone version of something that has been done.
why cant we move forward instead?

I liked the Adrian Brody Predators movie and would rather them just continue with that.

He wrote the original one, didn't he?

If IM3 is one of the worst movies you've seen you've pretty much never watched a bad movie.

So don't watch it. Pretty simple.

The ending of that movie sets up a sequel. I'd rather see them follow up on that, although I don't like Brody and that woman as action heroes.

Why does it need a reboot? Just rerelease the original.

He wrote the original one, didn't he?

I don't like this but Shane Black wrote one of my favorite movies, The Monster Squad, but he also fricked up one of my favorite superheroes, so I'll wait and see.
