my complaint has nothing to do with enjoying the original. but instead of building upon a great mythology and expanding the Predator story, we will most likely get a shitty redone version of something that has been done.
why cant we move forward instead?
I said I had no issue with this argument and get it. It's the 'OMG THEY'RE RUINING MY CHILDHOOD!!" or "The original was so good why do they have to frick it up?!?!"

The original is an Arnie action movie with a cool monster, not exactly high art.

I liked the Adrian Brody Predators movie and would rather them just continue with that.
Waaaaayyyyy underrated film. I found it very solid, outside SOME of the acting. I liked Brody in that role.
But two things:
1) Shane Black is a fine film maker, IM3 is just a different type of film. Maybe it was a swing and a miss, but he was swinging for the fences (the Mandarin ordeal is the only thing I truly have a problem with. If they wanted the "fake" villain storyline, they just needed to use someone else. Mandarin is too iconic for that shite.)
2) Who cares, reboots don't affect originals, if anything they get MORE people interested in them at some point. If the only result of this film is another ten thousand people enjoying Arnold at his best at some point, then I'm for it.

Its easily one of the top 5 action movies ever made. May not be high art, but its still a classic film.

What's the over/under that The Rock will star?

I'm not mad that Shane Black has been tapped as the director and writer. I think he's fantastic.
Aside from dropping the ball with Iron Man 3 (even though it was actually enjoyable, it was a pretty bad movie), this is the same guy who did Lethal Weapon, The Last Boyscout, the Long Kiss Goodnight, Last Action Hero, and the unbelievable Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.
My thing is: Stop with the reboots.

I can never get enough Predator, it's my fav sci fi villian/character
The first Predator film is basically a perfect movie. It has everything you could want
Part of what makes it great is the tone, music, atmosphere and the overall mystic of the creature. Both AVP movies fricking sucked, way too cheesy.
If there is a reboot, I really hope they do it justice

According to the trade, Black is directing and writing the treatment for the film, which will then be scripted in full by Fred Dekker (with whom Black worked on Monster Squad).
Getting Fred Dekker to write the script is a great move. Dekker did a great job with House and Night of the Creeps

I think it suffered from building expectations. We're not even talking a single sequel. It was a follow-up to the fantastic Iron Man, the underwhelming but generally ok Iron Man 2, and the blockbuster that was Avengers.
There was almost no way to meet fan expectations, so I think Black tried to make it more personal, tried to open up a way to close RDJ's time as IM in the next couple of films.
So the expectations between the fans and Black were in different universes completely.
Like I said, I like the film except for two things: Mandarin (as cool a move as it was, completely misguided), a bit of a rehash on the "TOny is down on his luck and struggling being Iron Man" thing. Every single Iron Man film has dealt with that.

He wrote the original one, didn't he?
Not according to IMDb, writers were Jim Thomas and John Thomas.

If he can pick two muscle-bound action heroes that will both become Governors I'm in. Otherwise, please expound on the franchise or get these no-idea burnouts out of executive positions. Enough already. This is like redoing First Blood.
And regardless, it won't kill my love for the original-but it will use a blimpload of cash to not spend on an original idea.

i want to see a predator set in like ancient japan or the american west
Posted on 6/24/14 at 6:08 pm to SlowFlowPro
yeah this should be an opportunity to reboot in a different setting that could work, unlike the "urban" jungle that Predator 2 picked. idk about western since there isnt much there to use. Japan could be cool though. but unfortunately, i doubt they set it somewhere old. It will probably be a take on today's army.
eta: predator will be a bin laden incarnation and seal team 6 will be the main heroes sent in to kill Predator.

Perhaps the most hated director in the comic book universe
Most hated? Was Iron Man 3 really that bad?
What's a shame is Shane Black has more talent that to be wasting his time with comic book movies.
