If module 4 hadn't dropped me a full grade level, I think I wouldn't be so stressed at this point!
Welcome to the McGee ACCT701 Week 4 Test Debacle support group. That exam seemed to drop a lot of people (including me) grade level.
Instructor evaluations are out...McGee is getting very low marks. Meanwhile, I like Dr. James, but between the workload and the disorganization of MKT701, I'm not happy with it.
If I'm someone at LSUS that is evaluating how to keep students engaged and motivated so they don't drop out of the program, I'm immediately looking at the issues with MKT701. This class has my motivation to continue completely shot.

I am signed up for MADM 760 with Meeks and ECON 705 with White for Summer II and wanted to know which one requires less teamwork as I have an international work trip in the middle of the session which will impact timezones. Any recs?

ECON 705 has no group work. MADM 760 has weekly group work.

ECON 705 with White
I have no first hand experience with White, but I would consider scheduling a different class (if possible) and take ECON 705 with Shaughnessy instead at a later date. I know that may not be an option if you are looking at graduation soon but I've heard a lot of horrible things about White's Econ class.
As Jeaux said, there are weekly meetings with your group in MADM 760, but I really enjoyed both that class and my group.

Take MADM 760 with McLaughlin if available. No group work.
Posted on 6/13/18 at 4:09 pm to Lutzhill
@Lutzhill does McLaughlin require proctored exam and are their 20-page projects?

ECON 705 with White
I took ECON with White last term. I can't compare with anyone else teaching the class. It seems that a lot of people struggled. The workload is fairly reasonable - it's the challenge of understanding and memorizing the formulas that make it very challenging. This class is extremely mathematics intensive. Knowing advanced algebra, graphing and linear curve formulas, geometry, and calculus derivatives will be helpful going into the class. White requires the use of a stand alone calculator that does not have a graphing function. You won't be able to use your phone's calculator app, a calculator on your computer, or Excel on the tests. Every exam in the class uses Proctorio and White is VERY particular about how you scan your room with the camera when prompted. I ended up buying a financial calculator (TI BAII Plus) and a separate Logitech USB webcam (so I didn't have to spin my laptop all around the room) for the course.
White regularly posted videos to help explain how to work through the equations. It seems that most of the class had trouble with understanding what was trying to convey. I found that I needed to look up additional videos on YouTube as a supplement.

Same. Just submitted my Part Two...17 pages of content. Did completely fine on Part One and I felt the same way as most people commenting here.
Also, completely unmotivated as the last week and a half winds down.

ECON705 with Dr. Shaughnessy was all about using Excel. I would avoid White based on that description of the class.

Hi mbapilot.
The program fee may have gone up, but last year it was $2600. Depending on where you're located plane tickets to Sydney can be expensive. I would budget $1000-$1500 for your plane ticket and if you want to do some extra activities like m123 did, GAV has additional program fees. I would say, between the program fee, plane ticket, meals (you will most likely eat out most of the time), sightseeing fees, etc. I would budget $5-$6k.

Hi FL Sun,
Last year, Dr. Knotts sent over a PDF to read before going to Australia, but nothing substantial pre-trip. I forgot to mention that beyond the ppt, paper, and final, we had to write a short "reflection" paper after the trip due 3 days after the program. The course itself is really 10 days and happens during that 6 week break between Fall AP2 and the start of Spring AP1.

6 more days til checking out of this MKT course after turning in Application on Tuesday.
@mtntreks I couldn't make it through those Zoom videos either. Just people talking over one another the whole time. Most of what was discussed could have easily been done by email/forum. My patience and motivation is non-existent with this course for the past couple weeks.

Go with Shaughnessy for ECON. Request in the course/get on wait list (get email notification when someone drops from it). One of the best professors in the program IMO. No Excel with any financial course is just bizarre.

Hi Cin8,
After reviewing all the info from you & m123 I'm really having second thoughts... I really felt led to believe that the experience was more exciting than sitting in a classroom, staying in a dorm-like setting, and riding the bus. lol I also thought it was an MBA level program with trips to company offices for in-depth hands-on learning, and hotel like accommodations. I can't stay an extra week due to my work schedule so I won't see much else really. Thanks to both of you for the candid insight.

I applied for a VP of IT position at a local hospital and my application actually made it past HR to the C-suite for review! My application would have been tossed into the digital circular file if not for this program. I am hoping, hoping, hoping for an interview! It is a long-shot, but you never know!

I’m from a non business background and am doing just fine without the foundation courses. Search the forum for recommended courses and professors before you register for classes.

Hello there. I too will hopefully be starting the PM program in Summer AP2 (come on official transcripts). I have a science background and struggle with IF I need the foundation classes. It looks like if you can get the right teacher for ACCT 701, ECON 705, ISDS 705 and FIN 705 you may not need the foundation courses. Although if you're going to do the Finance Concentration it may not be a bad idea to have FIN 705 under your belt. I'm only going to have 1 acct class, 1 finance class and 1 economic class. I'm unsure though if any of the other courses require statistics.
Good Luck with your program.
