Why not receive five dividends rather than one? Isn't that how it works? I'm asking.

Stock-XOM by far.
Mutual fund-Vandguard dividend someshit or another.
I've found by best returns come from investing in my current businesses or new ones. I only put my tax deferred retirement income in the market for the most part. After the market drop, I bought a shite ton of XOM, Ford, Altria, BP post spill, Pfizer, WM(have sold), McDonalds, Coke, Monsanto, and a few others. But very few stock purchases since.

stock: AAPL by far (cost about 27 adjusted for split). I should probably sell now, but don't want to take the tax hit...I know, terrible reasoning...
funds/ETFs: about the same of each
LYRIX
BCSIX (closed)
FSCRX (closed)
YAFFX (closed)
QQQ
IJR
closed out my largest stock position (FAST) last year after long profitable run
my 25% annual over 5 years destroying the s & p's 18%

I just sold mine this week. I bought it a few years ago around 300 and rode it all the way up and all the way back down. Didn't want to make that same mistake again. Also, I dumped a few speculative plays and have some losses to offset some of the AAPL and WF gains I took this year.

It changes every few days depending on what my weekly play (whim) is but generally speaking my biggest long position is Spirit Airlines (SAVE). I'm only 26 if you're wondering if I'm crazy. I don't have a ton to lose.

Not saying it's bad, but why own 5 blue chips instead of the S&P 100? The risk adjusted return is so much better.
I agree.
If I'm going to buy an individual stock, I'm going to look for something that has a potential for big returns to compensate for the risk of a single holding. Seems to me that blue chips are usually fairly or over valued (other than crash times like 08/09).

In order I think:
JPM
IBKC (due to TSH buyout)
AFL
XOM
BA
Then a bunch around the same amount including CVX, COP, VMW
