It takes a lot more fuel and time to get 200 miles out than it does to drive down the road past the federal land preserves.

ETA: Oh, it's around American Samoa. I don't really give a frick then. I still don't see the point though. Probably fricking with someon's livelihood for no good reason.

He just gets lambasted on here for anything he does

Not that it's surprising. Liberals did the same when bush was in office.

I wonder what Pelosi will have to say about this.

IIRC, her husband has a lot invested in American Samoa and the Marianas, to the point where she pushed to make those areas exempt from the US minimum wage.

Doesn't this answer the last part of your sentence?

executive action

These have been controversial at best.

The exclusive economic zone goes out 200 nautical miles, I believe.

Overfishing and habitat destruction are real maritime issues. If this helps, so be it.

+1

Sounds like the area is in the middle of nowhere, actually.

I just find the spin of a pro-pollution Congress vs a "save-the-planet" POTUS a bit humorous.

Interesting. I wonder if his portfolio has any property in this area?

Sounds like someone is getting ready to ride off into the sunset and doesn't want anyone bothering him.

My problem is him doing this through executive action. I just don't know how he can do that...it seems though that none of his EO have done shite anyways and are just pandering to idiots I don't think they ever change anything because if they enforce it then it'll go to court and get shot down as unconstitutional.

I'm more curious as to what the fish trade program thing is

People are right to be skeptical. This thing has some stink attached to it, I'm almost positive.

Do you know how I know? Think for a moment about how this would have been presented if it was a wonderful idea with no negative consequences.

First of all, there would be no need to poke the Republicans in the eye with all this, "He's doing it all by himself cuz those baaad Republicans in Congress hate the enviroment." Contrary to lib-think, Republicans actually support rational environmental conservation.

Secondly, the announcement would have been lauded with ample details of WHY this is such a good thing. It's the absence of details that really make this seem suspicious.

Obama is a campaigner and a shyster, not a president for all Americans. He doesn't lead, he lies, manipulates, and schemes to punish opposition and consolidate power. But even he would not miss the chance to crow about a no-brainer positive action that most Americans on both sides of the aisle would support if only they knew the details.

Politics is foremost.
Hidden agenda is assuredly present.
Unintended consequences - there will surely be many.

Yep. I still say that some sort of 'National Holiday/Party' movement is began on social media, so it'll be big by the time of his last day. He needs to know that his kind of *leadership*...is loathed. Such a mass movement/display would send a clear message, as to his protracted stay (he plans to live in Washington after he leaves office; we know why) as to any further interference in the process.

That's everyone's problem. An EO has no long term stability. It can be undone as quickly as it's done. No one can form long term plans based on an EO in an Administration's 6th yr. Dumb stuff.

I'd like to get Capt. Bengal's take on this. Isn't he an Oceanographer or Marine Biologist?
