So you have had the olive dressing but not the sandwich? WTF? Im no fan of olives but a Muffaletta is a great sandwich when done correctly. It should represent the state just fine. Only other alternative would be the shrimp po-boy.

Pretty sure he meant the one from Central Grocery. He didn't mean he's never had a muffaletta

Buy a muffulletta from Central Grocery, cut it into 4 sections, and toast it in the oven on a cookie sheet on 400 for about 5-7 minutes and take a bite.

Unless you hate olives/olive salad, what you bite into will taste better than any po-boy you've ever had.

Olive oiliness + crunchiness + cold cuts = WIN

I know a lot of tourists go to Central Grocery, buy a muffuletta, eat it there, and think "meh".

You NEED to take it home and toast it in the oven to bring out the olive oily goodness.

And when you quarter it, you increase the toastiness factor.

Its one of my favorite sandwiches and its probably the only thing I enjoy with olives on it.

I think it's best at room temp.

There are a bunch of opinions like that on this board. Posters recommending places they've never been or bashing them. I like the ones that bash ____________ restaurant in NOLA when if you put that same restaurant in their armpit of a home town it would be the best place in town.

LINK?

Don't bother he'll just post the Drago's thread. But I'm sure he's eaten at all of the restaurants in every armpit hometown in the state to make such an uninformed and blanket statement

I got bashed for posting that I would rather go to eat a burger at La Petite Grocery rather than Charcoal's even though I have never eaten at both. Nevermind LPG is a staple in the city with great ratings and next door to my crib while Charcoal's continually cooks medium rare burgers well done

Exactly. Central Grocery's isn't my cup of tea, but a hot Frenchalleta from Liuzza's hits the spot just right

Never had LPG, but I'd pick it before Charcoal's. Charcoal's was pretty meh.

On topic, a good muff is hard to beat and pretty iconic for our state. I respect this selection.

I respect the selection. It would be either that or a poboy, obviously. Can't go wrong either way.

I am not a muffaletta fan though, and I've had them from virtually everywhere. Just not my thing.

Muffalettas should be room temperature, not hot. When cold cuts get hot, they get greasy. They're called cold cuts for a reason.

I think that's fair. Olives are pretty polarizing.

If I don't want to head downtown to CG, a Frenchuletta from Liuzza's is the definitely the next best thing.

A cold Abita, a Frenchuletta, and a basket of fried pickles or a plate of onion rings from Liuzza's is Heaven.

burro, that lake trout sammich from Maryland is terrible and looks like a Burger King whaler with extry lettuce.

but, I've never had either one.
