Just wondering because every time someone mentions steakhouse and BR it's always Flemings or Ruth Chris.

Haven't had steak at Stab's, but the lunch we had there last week was very good.

Ruth Chris.
Is locally owned and one of the only in the country(I think theres one other) that cuts their own meat in house.

It's my favorite and the BR location is my favorite of all.
I don't order steak out a lot, but I love the whole meal at RC every time and the praline freeze they give me to go to enjoy for dessert in my pjs.

Making amazing steaks at home is so damned easy, I'm not sure why you'd really want to go to a steakhouse.

Pretty sure Ruth's, Flemings, and Sullivan's are all locally owned.

Sullivan's is good. I really want to try Ruth Chris. There was one in Orlando but it was on I-drive and I didn't go down that unless I had to.
I've heard nothing but great things about that place though.

I don't have the one of a kind oven that Ruth's Chris has or a waiter.

Not quite local but close to it is Doe's Eat Place. Great if you want to eat like a glutton and not be too fussy about dressing up.

Did TJ get rid of the Ruth's finally where it's corporate now?

He sold it to his manager at the time, Chris Bachman, a great operator that has continued the great tradition of food and service.
Sullivan's(Texas) and Fleming's(Florida) are both corporately owned, but Leo from Sullis and Larry from Fleming's give both stores a great local feel.

Fleming's Corporate is in California (although owned by OSI)
And I thought Leo moved on to new restaurant in New Orleans?

The short answer is "No" because there is nothing people born in Baton Rouge love more than a chain restaurant, except maybe getting into wrecks on I-10. Owning a franchise of a chain is not "locally owned", though I'll give TJ credit for what he built his franchise into.

It doesn't take a steakhouse to make a good steak. As others have mentioned you can cook fantastic steaks at home, and the professional chefs at most locally owned restaurants can cook fantastic steaks as well. Louisiana Lagniappe serves a prime ribeye that has been excellent the times I've ordered it. Juban's serves prime steaks and prime-rib. You have alternatives to franchise steakhouses in Baton Rouge for good steaks.

This is true. Also, the filet tournedos is excellent as well, topped with lump crabmeat and beurr blanc sauce.

The skillet served Cajun NY strip at Stabs is wonderful.

If we are going to talk about steaks in BR and not whether the establishment is locally owned or not.... The best steak in Baton Rouge is served at a locally owned establishment: Ruffino's. When the 45 Day Dry Aged Ribeye is available - its the best. Their Tomahawk isnt too darn shabby either, just a monster of a cut.
I am a big fan of Ruth's in BR, and only BR. The others seem to disappoint each time. Flemings in BR is a "chain," but is more consistant than others. I will not go to Sullivans BR again, 10 strikes and u been out.
I agree on LL. Good spot. Tournadoes are good, that ribeye is solid as well.
