In his column about NBA front office mambo in recent weeks, Lowe brings up the Pelicans- saying that Dell on the hot seat rumors are circling. The two guys on the radar he mentions would frighten me and are total scrubs compared to dealer dell. Lowe's garbage speculation below...

quote:

Two names to watch if the Pellies eventually part ways with Demps: Joe Dumars and Bobby Marks, the Nets’ assistant GM. Dumars is from Louisiana and tight with higher-ups from the New Orleans Saints, a relationship that dates to well before any real possibility Tom Benson would ever own an NBA team. Marks is well respected and could become a candidate for the New Orleans job.

Would become a Heat fan if that happened.

If they are considering these two guys, just let Mickey Loomis run things until they could find a good GM. Hell, I'd rather Rita Benson over these two scrubs.

I don't know anything about Marks other than him being Billy King's underling. I can write off a lot of the Net frickups to Prokorov being impatient and King being an idiot.

Dumars, though? frick that.

It is a purely speculative article listing the potential top GM jobs. The main thing I took from it wasn't that he speculated Dumars would get consideration if Demps was fired, but that the team is more committed to Monty than Dell. We discussed this yesterday if anyone's interested LINK

The whole thing is frankly scary.

The one thing no one has talked about is that Benson/Loomis might not have a clue re: NBA. Lot of good faith from this Saints run. Yet it doesn't necessarily mean anything with the Pelicans

You know how you know the current regime knows nothing about basketball?

Demps gets fired. He's a GM somewhere else the next season or earlier.

Monty gets fired. He's a head assistant coach at best next year or later.

Seriously, Dell has done some pretty ludacris work with this roster stockpiling talent that's had health issues previously not an issue with these particular players (minus EG fiasco).

Monty has done nothing. Quite literally nothing. It's a freaking joke.

ETA: I'm very, very grateful to Benson for buying this team. However, all the Saints brass needs to GTFO and find some real leadership above Dell to accurately assess what is going on.

What's with the Dumars hate?

You're either getting a rookie GM that doesn't know shite (Demps) and you have to wait for him to figure it out or a guy that ducked up another team and got canned.

Dumars built a championship team that made some deep playoff runs a well.

Pels talk drools over the likes of Monroe and Drummond. Guess who drafted them?

Josh Smith was the nail in his coffin and he's a guy everyone wanted us to sign

Who are some hot GM names?

probably not. he will go be in a front office elsewhere for a few years and get back as GM probably in 3-5 years.

he'll be picked up as an assistant coach immediately, if not hired by a college as head coach.

Recent FA signings that have doomed that team:

Ben Gordon
Charlie Villenueva
Josh Smith
Brandon Jennings

Dumars has a spotty record of team building since he broke up the Sheed Pistons.

$100M in FA to Gordon, Villanueva, Smith, and Jennings is catastrophic. The Gordon/Maggette deal where he tossed in a first was Dempsian.

If he's drafting, great. Outside of Darko, who was done no favors by Larry Brown, he's got a solid record (Prince, Afflalo, Stuckey, Amir Johnson, et al).

Not this guy.

Though, if they were committed to uptempo and not afraid to go small, a Gordon/Smith trade could actually work.
