Nerdist.com just broke the news that Oscar-nominated actress Jessica Chastain (Zero Dark Thirty, The Help) has been offered one of the leading roles in the second season of HBO's True Detective. But will she be able to find the Yellow King the way she found Bin Laden?
True Detective, as you know, is an anthology series. With each new season containing new characters and a new mystery. So it's safe to assume that Chastain was offered the role of one of the, you know, detectives (we're not certain however if we'll be given a new duo, like Harrelson and McConaughhey, or if her character would be going it alone).
Funnily enough, this news comes on the heels of last week's rumor started up by the Mirror UK that Brad Pitt, Chastain's co-star in Tree of Life, had been offered a lead role as well. That news was a bit shaky though.
Chastain, with Brad Pitt, in Terrence Malick's Tree of Life.
This news of Chasitain possibly joining also falls in line with creator Nic Pazzolatto's statement about Season 2 perhaps centering more on strong female characters to differentiate it a bit from the male-centric first season.
Nerdist reached out to representatives of Chastain, but they declined to comment.

meh, she comes off as whiney and annoying to me. I like Brad Pitt for the role though.

If it has to be a woman lead I support her

Not a fan of 90% of female leads. They typically are written poorly or overact.

No way a thin frail woman like Chastain can defend herself from cult murderers and big scary hodoresque fricks

Meh, She's good but I was really hoping it would be Pitt. She really fit the bill in Zero Dark Thirty but, depending on the plot, I don't think this show fits her the best but we'll see. She is a damn good actress.

I was hoping we wouldn't get a female lead detective, but I can see this.
I liked her in zero dark thirty and with Pitt on board, this has some potential
