Most of my friends that I am not longer in touch with were due to just growing a part, but there have been occassions where I had to break it off. The most recent involved a friend who sold me some stolen fishing equipment. Have you ever broke it off with a friend?

No, I don't break up with friends. Just stop hanging out.

I've normally just grown apart. As I've gotten older, it takes more effort to continue friendship. I've never had something bad happen to the point I stopped being friends.

In 5th grade my best friend and I competed for the same position in football and he got mad when I won (humble brag) and we didn't hang out for like a year, but Im going to his wedding next month so I guess we are still good.

Just grew apart with most of them. I was actually thinking about this on the way to work this morning. I had some really good friends back in high school and we've just gone our separate ways. I'd like to reconnect with them soon though

Marriage seems to be the biggest factor in breaking up friendships

I've grown apart from some friends just naturally, but I've recently been trying to reconnect with some of my closer friends from my youth. It's working, they're still great folks.

Sounds like you're trying to tell us you broke it off in a friend and feel awkward about it now.

Like did you have a formal breakup where said "It's not you it's me," and then unfriended them on Facebook? Or did you just quit returning their calls?

Once. Dude was basically my brother. Got involved in a bunch of crazy junk I couldn't/cant afford to be associated with. I'd still do anything for him in a heartbeat though.

Growing apart, yes.

I've also broken off a few 'relationships' because they were infecting my life and influencing me negatively.

Grew apart. In my case, I moved to NYC and all of my friends got married and have kids. Almost everyone has a professional career so any free time that my friends have are spent with their families.

I am still friends with my core group of guys, but we barely see each other. We all have families, and that just takes priority.

Grown apart with kids in the picture and distance to boot.

But

If I got a call saying that he needed my help, I'd be there in a heartbeat. So we are still friends that don't hang out as much but when it comes to important shite we tight.
