rac·ist
'rasist/
noun

1.
a person who believes that a particular race is superior to another.

adjective
1.
having or showing the belief that a particular race is superior to another.

So is there any circumstances where being racist as described above is acceptable? Isn't this akin to having pride in ones culture? Indians for instance generally believe in arranged marriages to other Indians which is most certainly a racist practice, but is it wrong?
Or is it only when the person who harbors racist ideology uses this belief to harm someone else that racism becomes a thing to be shunned?

Yes.

So is that definition btw.
At least insofar as it's incomplete.

Racism entails belief in intrinsic superiority (and intrinsic inferiority) of particular races. It also implies derisive behavior towards members of another race on the basis of that belief.

I don't believe its ever wrong to simply hold a belief, an idea, or an opinion. It could be wrong if you act upon those ideas and negatively impact another person's life though.

I think we enter dangerous territory when we try to police a person's mind.

Superior is a subjective term. Now, if you specified with something like cognitive abilities then yes, I believe that different races have different levels of IQ. Top to bottom would be:
Jews
Asians
Whites
Hispanic
Blacks

You could call that racism. I call it science.

I'm reading the stories about the Clippers owner this morning. He must be a staunch Democrat. No way an owner from a Southern team could say those things.

Define "superior", Rev.

It's damn obvious that particular races and individuals (genetic traits) are relatively superior in some aspects and inferior in others.

We'll choose teams for some pickup ball...you can have the white guys.

How bout teams for a spelling bee. I'll take the Asians.

Unmatched will power toward pragmatic ends...the Chinese win hands down.

Creativity. Give me the Jews. They copped most every Nobel Prize...back when the NB meant something.

'Heart'...and a desire for Truth and Love. White Europeans take first prize; as the historical evidence bears witness.

But for the last, the above characteristics are worldly. The desire and ability to know Truth and embrace Love is - or ideally should be - THE defining criteria by which relative 'superiority' or value of any group or individual is measured. In that respect...ANY group or individual is truly equal, and has equal opportunity to embrace those empowering Principles. Outside of that...it's status games, Capitalism vs. Socialism...and 'wailing and gnashing of teeth'.

The term "racist" is misused way too often.

What If you have one man like Bundy who is an old rural boy who uses improper terminology, but is sincerely friendly to other racist and truly helps them to succeed, then, you have a second man who uses all the right buzz words, but keeps back other races by holding them to inferior standards because deep down, he doesn't think they are capable of helping themselves? Who is the real racist in this scenario?

So is it racist if you believe that a race outside of your own is superior in certain aspects

First, I don't think that definition applies in terms of what most consider racism today. For instance, many liberals consider thug the new N word and racist. To me, thug does not suggest superiority over said thug, rather it is a negative connotation that suggests criminal nature. As such, I think most of what is considered racism today is simply creating a negative image of a particular race.

Second, racism is a social construct often based on experience/reality. If a particular race has a disproportionate number of criminals, then perception stems from reality and members of the race should be looking at what needs to change socially to improve conditions and less concerned about racism. The racism will end when the reality changes.

Believing you are inherently superior in worth compared to another based on skin color or ethnicity is always wrong. It is both socially and scientifically ignorant.

Believing your culture is better is not necessarily wrong though.

and conversely: a person who believes that a particular race is inferior to another
(this is the insidious core of affirmative action, a/k/a "good racism")

Racism is part of nature, as long as two or more groups of beings can perceive differences between them, they will naturally align with the ones that are more like themselves.

Today's culture has been imposed from the top in an attempt to control this natural impulses, I believe they will fail in this endeavour.

The thing that is wrong is white supremacism...which formed the base of this country and was the bedrock of its politics and general behavior for over 350 years. The things that today's right-wingers threaten revolution over are child's play compared to real-life, institutionalized terrorism which black people cowered under well into the late-20th century.

The problem is an utter lack of perspective and an ignorance of history.

This part is really the only harmful kind of racism, I think.

Racism is vital for Caucasians, because we are the only people who literally go extinct when mixing with most other races since our genes are recessive.

I think it's more a preservationist/conservationist effort rather than a disenfranchisement of others effort for the vast majority of sane white people. Our Caucasoid race is now down to a tiny 8% of earth's population, and globalization has literally placed us on the endangered species list.
