I'm a resident of St. George and I oppose incorporation. It's chickenshit greed. It's wanting to enjoy the benefits of Baton Rouge... its jobs, its collegiate opportunities, its infrastructure, etc... without having to pay for it.

since EBR is so worried about the huge loss of tax money, it seems they are the ones who want to enjoy the perks without paying for it

I feel much better now with you on Russian's side.

FWIW, "the collegiate opportunities" are not funded or run by the City of Baton Rouge and has nothing to do with the discussion.

Now discussing the benefits of the City of Baton Rouge and what a city the size of BR (230K people)brings to the table is fine.

But don't come here and tell me I haven't paid for part of it because it appears that without the revenues and taxes collected in SG and other non incorporated areas of EBR Parish, the whole thing might fall apart.

Not as up to date as I should be on this subject, but if I recall correctly, isn't the opposite true? Aren't they wanting to separate themselves because they feel BR is getting more benefit from SG tax dollars than SG is?

Seems like if it was greed, BR being staunchly opposed to it would tell me that BR is in fact the greedy party in all of this.

Why doesn't Baton Rouge incorporate areas of St. George and end this that way?

Because then we would elect members of the city council that would change the way they have been running this city.

They have a demographic edge right now in how voting goes and they don't want to change that.

I agree.. Take out the mall, Perkins Rowe and few other areas they will not keep and st George is on equal footing.

You seem to be one the most mobile people around.. Since you've been on this board, how many times have you moved?

Jobs? You mean all of the engineers, etc who work in the Petro Chemical Industry east of EBR?

Infrastructure? Yeah, everybody knows BR infrastructure is second to none.

These Kip Holden/BRAC toadies keep it up, and they'll push people like me to vote for the breakaway.

Collegiate opportunities, notwithstanding nobody knows what you're talking about, there's one little tidbit you've ignored. LSU and Southern are state universities.

Yep - exactly what it is.
Not as bad as suburbs like Metairie or Kenner though that leech off of New Orleans for their incomes and take the money home and spend and pay taxes in JP. It's so bad that the state has to pay the commuting costs of people in Gretna, with the expiration of the tolls.

I wonder if the St. George area didn't have high income level by its residents and provide so many tax dollars would anyone care if they wanted to form their own city? I really don't get it. Why should BR people care if they chose to leave BR? Last time I looked this was still the USA.

So you never leave your parish to shop or travel and enjoy other infrastructures? If so how does it feel to be greedy. Hope you never go to lsu away games or saints games you greedy bastard.

Such a dumb arse argument.

So funny it's not greedy when you want others money.
