Jim Hawthorne is so frustrating some times

Mostly when he's calling baseball games.
Forgot "sacker" or calling home runs pop-outs.. There's two things the last two seasons that drive me crazy.
Last season it was calling the last play of the game and saying (example) "ground ball to second.. Throw over to 1st" "and that'll retire the side." It was like he was calling the end of the 2nd inning or something. There was no mention the game just ended. Any other announcer would make mention to the final out of the game instead of treating it like the 4th inning just ended. That happened at the end of every game the entire season.
Now tonight instead of telling you someone just struck out. He would simply say "strike" like strike 1 was called. Here's an example. "Here's the 2-2 pitch. And that's a called strike." And that was it. No mention that the batter just struck out. No change of voice inflection either which would let you know something happened.
I don't know if he's bored or what but he's really lazy with his calls sometimes.

He loves LSU. No negative comments allowed.
Also, I'm supposed to ask if you could do better.
I think I covered how this thread is supposed to go on the rant.

He's probably a year or two away from hanging it up. Relax.

Sounds like he did mention the batter got strike three? And you should know just because it's strike three the batter may not be out.

You would think with baseball being a slow sport compared to football or basketball, he could get the shite right most times. I turned my radio on in my car a couple of weekends ago to find out Vandy had taken Georgia's place for an at bat. He needs to go

Jim just needs to retire . End of story

Obviously by math the listener knew the batter struck out. But what kind of strike 3 radio call is simply saying "strike"? It's so lazy and half assed.

I think this is part of it with baseball. Its a long year calling games and it sounds like he is ready to be done. No excuse for it, though.

Was he bitching about how late it is?

I always thought he was alright. I don't get the hate.

Not tonight. No mention of "these idiots" (LSU students) either.

While we're on the Hawthorne pain train, anybody else think his pronunciation of the Mc sound is an intentional thing? I've never heard anybody emphasize the "MAC" as much as he does. Sean MACMullen, Ben MACDonald. The MACNeese game was hilarious to listen to.

Try listening to Hawthorne call a football game. Down and distance does not exist.

LSU beats #1 Arizona in basketball. LSU students storm the court. Which means they had to jump over the scorer's table. The radio crew happened to be where they were all jumping over.
Jim said on air that these idiots are going to trample him.

Having moved to MS a year ago, I've been stuck listening to Miss St football, basketball, and baseball games when driving. I meant to post this a while ago, but never got around to it. Don't take Hawthorne for granted. The geezer who announces Moo St is horrible. He spends to much time trying to describe the play, he completely forgets to tell you the play itself.
Ex: "He takes the ball around the left end, crosses the 50, now the 45. Now he spins his way out of a tackle. Great blocking by receivers down the field as he's toeing the sideline, and he's finally brought down. That will be first and goal at the 7." WTF?!?! where did the extra 40 yard gain come from?!?!

Sunday a runner scored basically the same time a runner was thrown out at third for the third out.
Hawthorne: and he's going for third and he's going to be....out
Hanny: run scored though
Jim: well obviously the run scored
It's like he had no idea why hannagriff was clarifying that.

My new favorite is " ground ball towards centerfield.......picked up by the 2nd baseman, then thrown over to first for the out".
Really? The 2nd baseman moved to his right a few steps, grounder towards cf leads me to believe the ball was hit near the bag and is probably going into cf
