Rules of carrying a gun

Thinking of getting my CHL and was wondering.
If I'm at a gas station getting a coke and a guy comes in and pulls a gun on the clerk, can I pull my gun on him and call the cops?
I would think yes but with the liberal society we live in now I would probably get thrown in jail

Don't listen to anything anyone says.
ETA: on this website, I mean.

You already don't sound responsible enough to carry.

frick no. Unless he starts shooting, keep your mouth shut and your gun out of sight. You might want to take it out of the holster and crouch down out of his sight, but at that point he has his gun already out and you don't, so don't get yourself or the gas station clerk killed trying to be Clint Eastwood.

You pull your gun and blow that mother frickers head off.

I think you can drop that motherfricker.
RS 14:20. Justifiable homicide
A. A homicide is justifiable:
(2) When committed for the purpose of preventing a violent or forcible felony involving danger to life or of great bodily harm by one who reasonably believes that such an offense is about to be committed and that such action is necessary for its prevention. The circumstances must be sufficient to excite the fear of a reasonable person that there would be serious danger to his own life or person if he attempted to prevent the felony without the killing.
ETA: This is not legal advice.

Those questions need to be asked at your class to get you license.
Further, if you're going to carry, spend $500 and get trained properly. In LA there is a group of guys who train that created the first person defender series on YouTube.
Good luck!

Do you seriously not know the answer to this question?

In Louisiana, you can pull your gun out and pull the trigger.

Never draw on a drawn gun.

Laws allow you to do that in some circumstances in some states.
But if you're going to carry, don't be a policeman. Either use your weapon to defend yourself or another person, but don't do citizen arrest shite.
Most likely, if I unholster a firearm to point it at another person, absent some pretty immediate action by the aggressor to concede, someone is getting shot (me or him or both). Which means that I had a good position to take that action and that I thought serious bodily harm or loss of life was about to occur.
If your question is about stepping into the shoes of a victim to justify using force, the answer may well be yes depending on the state. Just don't grow comfortable with the mindset you're going to use your gun to hold people until the cops arrive.

I would call local law enforcement to get the correct answer before following and advice given on this board.

What I was told in my class was never pull a gun unless you are in immediate danger. I've heard of someone protecting a cop by shooting someone that was smashing the cop's face in. He was exonerated in criminal court but spent years (and thousands of dollars) to be cleared in civil court. Unfortunately, these days sometimes it's better to stay out of it than to do what's right.

Can you in Louisiana...eh...yes.
Should you? Only if you intend to put him in the ground.
Smartest decision there is to draw your gun, crouch down, dial 911, wait it out.
A bullet fired though a glass door or windshield does not fly straight so it isnt like you can drop him from a distance.
Now if IN the store and it happens...eh.. I'll fire a shot into his head from behind a cooler. I wont be happy about it...but its the same situation if I see some little guy getting his arse kicked in a bar, I feel some obligation to break it up before someone gets hurt. Help those who cant help themselves.
Neither scenario is ideal. I dont enter gas stations for reasons like this, my gun is typically visible when I'm forced to get gas in a bad area...like fricking outskirts of el paso at 3 am.

you picked the right board to ask this question

Look, use common sense.
IMHO, you don't pull a gun unless you're going to fire.
This ain't TV, you don't yell "Freeze". That kind of crap will get your head blown off.
Think about it.
