I currently do not have a high enough credit limit to pay the entire vacation on my credit cards so I will miss out on at least some cash back opportunities

pre pay your credit card- if your limit is 10k, send them a 2k & your credit limit is now 12K

You can probably go to Mexico at an all inclusive including flight for about $1500/person for a week.

If flying domestically, and can get a new credit card, today is the last day to get the 50,000 point Southwest card from Chase. That will pay for you and the Mrs.

AirBnB is pretty neat. I actually just used it to rent an apartment for a week in Barcelona later this year. $100 a night for what would be a >$300 hotel room quality wise.

Will probably use it to book a villa in Miami later this year for a bachelor party then stuff 12 bros in there.

Thanks, yea I want to have the lodging and airlines booked by next Monday. I plan to do a nice hotel, but I want to break out part of the trip in a condo. I am looking at airbnb and it is a pretty awesome site to say the least.

Staying in a condo for a few nights will save me an arm and leg that could be put towards a different expense for the trip.

Yea Mexico and basically anywhere in the Gulf of Mexico are off the list. I am not going to risk anything during hurricane season.

Any suggestions for Delta rather than Southwest?

I don't have much experience booking award flights on Delta, but from my understanding they can be a bitch and a half for a good redemption, and you're probably not going to get enough points for both your wife and yourself from one credit card application.

What's wrong with Southwest? I imagine you'll be in cattle car either way.

ETA: By the way, the 50,000 points are worth about $750 on Southwest. Just take the free money and enjoy the honeymoon.

No kidding. I could probably travel on $50 a day without a female.

There is nothing wrong with Southwest for me. Unfortunately the nearest airport only has Delta connections. For this trip I am pretty screwed on plane tickets unless I want to add a few additional hours of driving. I am not as eager to cash on cheaper airfare due to the limitations. Although I am bookmarking this thread for future purposes if and when I do relocate.

I am very much interested though in credit card suggestions similar to your Southwest example, hotel rewards, AAA, anything that might lessen the pain of the vacation expenses. I like the idea of splitting the trip between a condo and a high end resort to have a little more spending power towards restaurant, bar, activity, etc...

So you're going to start your marriage off in debt? Or more debt than you already have?

Fortunately I have no debt and I will not have any debt after the wedding and honeymoon, barring no emergency occurs. I am simply trying to maximize the length of my honeymoon, while not taking away from the quality of the vacation in too big of a way.

//Edited to add: If you're referring to the credit cards, I pay the balance in full. I would rather put the trip on a rewards card than pay with my debit is the downside of not having a high enough credit limit.

where you can really save is on food and liquor costs. especially liquor.

Airbnb is VRBO on steroids, especially internationally.

I've stayed in beachfront vilas in Thailland or Bali for $70 a day. Incredible!

Most of my credit card experience is with Discover....and they don't allow this.

You can pay up to 10% over your current balance (not your limit).

Assumed it was standard fare.

i wouldn't rule out Mexico if you're looking for luxury on a budget. same goes for the dominican republic and puerto rico. just make sure you have travel insurance (it is cheap). these places really can't be beat in terms of luxury for your $. also, cheapcaribbean.com typically has some great flight & resort deals.

Air BNB has places from $5 a day to $1,000 a day.

Used them to stay at some guy's place in Denver back in November, $100 a night for a good view of downtown and close to the bus station to catch the airport. Really nice place too.

As for food, grocery stores FTW (I had one near where I was staying recently in Los Angeles).

Is that still a good option? My wife and I are looking at going to one. We've never been.
