Why is it too much, explain

If you flush your system too quickly, completely and too often, your stomach and intestines do not get the time to absorb the nutrients in your food.
It just washes on through. You should drink less than you do.

See the thread on Food Board

I was at 232 at the start of Feb and now 219 and I run a ton plus eat a lot of protein. If I have up drinking completely it would help

I searched and searched and have been unable to find any shred of evidence for this claim. As long as you're not having the hershey squirts every time you visit the bathroom, you're absorbing nutrients.

I did find this, however:
quote:

Keep in mind that while your stomach is certainly a hotbed of digestive activity, virtually nothing (except alcohol) is absorbed there. Your small intestine, the next stop, is the site of virtually all nutrient absorption, including proteins, carbohydrates, fats and water, as well as vitamins and minerals.

There are two primary ways that nutrients cross through the walls of the small intestine and enter the bloodstream: passive diffusion and active transport absorption. “Think of passive diffusion as pouring liquid through a cheesecloth,” says Volpe. It’s a simple process where nutrients move from an area of high concentration (from inside the intestine) to an area of low concentration (the bloodstream). Active transport absorption means that the nutrient requires a helper or carrier molecule to get it through the intestinal wall out into general circulation.

Although some nutrients are more prone to one type of absorption than the other, all vitamins – including fat-soluble ones (like A, D, E, and K), and water-soluble ones (like B and C) – are absorbed through passive diffusion, according to Bill Wheeler, BS, MS, PhD, ACSM, a nutritional consultant for professional and Olympic athletes. Minerals like calcium and magnesium, on the other hand, are transported actively. Yet many nutrients can be absorbed more readily than others, depending on what kind of food they’re coming from, and also on the body’s current nutritional status and relative need for that nutrient.

You don't have to read it all just post in it, but everyone in it struggles with weight to varying degrees and can offer advice

i think most people get caught up in common misonceptions about fitness and nutrition....and try doing crash diets that only work in the short term. trying to go super low carbs, then pigging out on weekends because they starved themselves all week. i calculated and starting tracking my macros in January and have lost about 16 lbs.... from 185 to 169.

Use my fitness pal and use the if it fits your macros diet ratios calories/fats/carbs/protein. Weigh and track everything period.

As far as exercise goes, I recommend either 5/3/1 bodyweight template plus sprints. The four day template. Or lci method by greyskull is another great workout for people looking to lose but make no mistake its hard.

Whatever you do get some heavy compound lifting in including squats and deads and get some sprints in. fasted Morning walks also help a ton

With my workout program, I would be a stick figure with that little calorie intake.

My love of beer hurts this endeavor

I feel your pain. I'll never get a six pack with the beer I drink. However, even with heavy beer consumption, you can lose shitload of weight if you bust your arse. I lost 65 lbs and never quit drinking beer.

a 350 lber eating all the bacon he wants just no carbs is a fricking terrible idea anyway

It's a bit more complex than that.

I've gone from 337 to 252 in 16 months going low carb - breakfast is one of the shakes or egg beaters omelette with a protein, usually deli meat in the eggs, occasionally bacon/sausage. Lunch is a salad 90% of the time with a protein that's left over from dinner and a light amount of dressing, sometimes even a can of tuna on top of lettuce and pickles. Dinner is a mix of grilled/baked chicken, porkchops, shrimp, steak (usually one ribeye per week), etc - whatever is leftover I'll mix with the salads for lunch the next day at work. Snacks - pork rinds, beef jerky, pistachios, etc.

It's not that hard of a diet, and if your friend really wants to lose weight it's an easy way to do it. Just make sure to keep count of the calories from the proteins and hit the treadmill to burn it off, and don't get crazy with the beefs/bacon/ultra cholesterol meats.

I also cut out soda's completely. Haven't had one in over a year. I drink exclusively water, black coffee, the Nestea bottled diet green tea (not the sparkling bc that's carbonated), the occasional powerade zero.

I'm running now as well instead of walking on the treadmill for the first time in a decade or two. Burning 500+ calories in a comfortable jog in 25 minutes is rad.

I like the idea behind the Alli pills for weight loss myself.

They don't do that much themselves for losing weight, but they ensure that you stick to a moderate, balanced diet, or else!

He already knows his diet sucks. He just wants to be the guy that can eat what he wants and still lose weight. He wants a shortcut. He'll wise up and figure out that it doesn't work like that.

I've never lost with CLA but it will tighten up your stomach. I take it with my tribulus in the morning.

tribulus is snake oil. Switch to DAA (Diaspartic Acid). It's been peer reviewed as effective.

Anyway to actually get through to him?

No getting through to someone who isn't really willing to change. Abs are born in the mind and then nurtured with the diet. He's trying to create something that really isn't alive yet.

If he is really willing, he'll listen. If not, he won't. Tell him the truth and then it's his decision.
