So it's disingenuous to say NOLA fixes problems by tearing them down. NOLA fixes problems by "Building it Better".

Im all for building it better but where do the former residents move to once its finished and they cant afford to live there. The criminal element and poor people will just move to another area and run down that part of town.

So rebuilding is great but there has to be a joint effort to go full force with cracking down on crime.

Start tearing down the terrible developments in Tigerland and move north along nicholson and highland until you get to downtown.

East St. Louis AINT NO JOKE

Took a wrong turn when visiting a pal and that hood is SCARY.

Actually reminded me of some Nola areas. Very decrepit and eery.

One of my best friends grew up in that area. His mother still lives there.

I haven't spent much time out there since the mid-to-late 90s, but it never seemed really dangerous.

They've already done so along nicholson. They still need to work on Tigerland and Highland, but Highland will probably never happen. Hopefully, the gentrification of Nicholson will start to spill over into Old South Baton Rouge once the water campus, mixed use developments, and streetcar lines are completed.

That's a good place to start, especially in joining LSU and Downtown as a place for serious economic and community development, but hopefully not selling the place out with bullshite or well be right back here doing it again soon enough.

From there, go east on Government and Main Street, and build up the tons of vacant lots with a plan for a community development that people don't want to run from in the future, take back the buildings that are redeemable, and now you have something to build upon for the future in transforming the big nasty into the big nice.

It amazes me how a bad area like that can be so close to such an expensive and safe area to live. I mean, 5-10 minute walk, max.

I know, welcome to Baton Rouge.

Wouldn't building up an area create more jobs, which would put more income in people's pocket, which would put more money in the city's economy.

There is so much prime real estate between campus and downtown and between the river to Park/Dalrymple. Just have to take it back on block at a time and remodel as you go.

I was there just yesterday and it really is shocking how much vacant land there is, and how much of it a ghost town.

It's 68.96 people out of 1000. Not 68.96 percent of the population if said city. I'd hate to be that poor .96 guy. I guess he's a repeat victim :(.

I saw some study once that said that Baton Rouge had more vacant housing units/capita than Detroit

Remember, criminals and government leeches don't think like that.
