The XP is the most worthless play in the NFL.....what would you replace it with?

Only 5 XPs missed in all of 2013

It's a damn near automatic play....it's predictable.....it's boring

I've heard a bunch of various options, but the alternative I like the best thus far is simply a 2pt conversion.

Score a TD = 7 points
Make the conversion = 8 points
Fail the conversion = 6 points
Refuse the conversion = stay at 7 points

What are some other, more exciting options, rather than some boring kick from 5 feet out?

I don't see why you have to replace it with anything. Just make a TD 7 points and go straight to the kickoff.

The game of football isn't broke. It doesn't need fixing. If the extra point is nearly automatic, simply move it back to the 23 yard line, and it will make the extra point a 40 yard kick. I bet it will be made 85% of the time, but you would still have some pressure on that kick.

I wouldn't change a thing. I like the added strategy of choosing to go for 2. That would go away if every TD resulted in a 2 pt conversion.

Change for the sake of change is often a bad idea.

What are the numbers for two pt conversions? Maybe they need to make those 3 PTs to make teams try them more.

Score a TD = 6 points
Run an offensive play from the 2 = 1 point
Run an offensive play from the 10 = 2 points
Run an offensive play from the 20 = 3 points

Give the scoring team an automatic point unless they want to go for two.

Make a TD 7 pts and give the option to go for a 1 pt conversion.

The XP really is useless. That result in the exact same thing pts-wise as now, you just wouldn't have to waste time with the XP.

If that isn't acceptable, make it where the person who kicks the XP has to be a part of the scoring play. That would make things much more interesting.

Bring the ball out from where the touchdown was scored similar to rugby. Can you imagine the formations for touchdowns scored at the pylon? Sure wouldn't be automatic.

I like the idea, but if you're gonna do that, why not just keep touchdowns at 6, and just make 2 PT conversions a must after scoring?
Making the automatic 7 seems silly to me. You were just complaining about that extra point being automatic and now you're wanting to just make it guaranteed? If you want to add excitement, then make it a 2 point play. Or...make it a 1 PT play from the 1 yard line and a 2 PT play from the 3 yard line. Or something like that.

Push the spoke for the XP back to the 20 if they want to kick for 1 pt.

Keep it at current spot for 2 pt conversion (non-kick)

If 7 points is given for refusing the conversion, isn't it more automatic than than actually attempting the XP?

Or is this just an argument to get rid of one useless play in general?

In college terms, it definitely isn't automatic for Cade Foster...
