Only reason the rates were so high is because I didn't shop around much and went with Capital One without any credit to my name to begin with.
Now graduating from college with a stable job in the engineering field, I could probably reach the minimum spending just paying on bills.

(this will be my 1st time flying...strictly for miles/airline status)

I'll say first things first, if you use credit cards the way they're supposed to be used, as in to garner the benefits of points and rewards, the APR shouldn't be that important. You should be planning to pay the balance off in full every month, unless you have a 0% APR promo going on.
Otherwise it cancels out the rewards. Considering you're young and probably haven't established too much credit, it'll be hard for you to get a low APR anyway. But again it shouldn't matter. Just focus on a decent rewards system.

I don't churn bank accounts, but I was annoyed with my former bank and had been getting those offers from Chase for many months and figured why not. I did the 300 + 200 dollar offer with them, and it was easy and painless. I'm glad to be dealing with a real bank, and I got some up front cash to sweeten the deal.

Years ago when I got into this thread (had read all hundred-something pages at the time, but I don't think I can read 500+), my SO and I didn't have travel in the cards because of tightness in budget time-wise and money-wise.
We had used very little in the way of travel rewards (United MileagePlus Explorer was all I did for travel. I focused instead on cash back because that was more of a priority. Now, our lives are a bit different, and we should be having more time and money for travel.
Capital One Spark is what we have been using for everything that didn't fall into a bigger rewards category for 2% back on "everything else". I made a mistake once and missed the deadline to pay the balance and minimum, so naturally I had to pay fees. I spoke to a representative and got this fixed to auto-draft. Or so I thought. This issue happened again even though I elected auto-pay. Has this happened to anyone?
At this point, I am thinking that the annual fee isn't worth the card for the little cash back benefit we get, especially since I'm less than pleased with how you can't set the auto draft date before the actual due date, and there is no warning whatsoever. Not sure that any of you can help me. I was more interested in knowing if any of you had similar experiences or if I'm just dumb. I think it will likely make sense for me to look for my next travel rewards card.

I want to get a card with lower rates (obviously) and a better rewards program, if possible. I've done some research , but you guys are the pros. I do a lot of travelling and probably fly anywhere from 2-5 times per year.
if you can get it, CSR

Just call them up and ask them to waive the fees and interest. I have done that several times and they always waive them.

That chart is really confusing
Number of years back this thread turned me on to two chase cards, freedom and sapphire preferred.
Chase guy was trying to get me to ditch the freedom and go to freedom unlimited.
Was wondering if I should do that or look into anything else.
TIA to anyone that will comment.

Why not both? I have both and use them often. 5% for Freedom categories, 3% Travel and Restaurants with CSReserve, and 1.5% everything else with Unlimited.

With the upcoming SPG/Marriott merger, did anyone transfer points from one to the other to take advantage of anything before the merger?
I have 130k Marriott and 80k SPG.
The one thing I did see mentioned was the Marriott Flight+Stay packages but I think the minimum was 250k points.

$450 annual fee
$300 yearly travel credit (can use on flights, uber, cabs, hotel, anything travel related)
essentially a $150 annual fee
so not bad for everything it gives you

When the 2nd AF posts, use your 2nd $300 travel credit. Then, product change to a Chase Freedom and the AF is refunded in full. Pay $450 to gain $600 and reap all of the other rewards for a year.

Need some advice:
I've got 3 credit cards, two of which have been opened in the last year with the other being ~2 years old. I'm looking to buy a house in 3-4 years. Those two recent cards seem to make it impossible/difficult to open a new card that comes with good benefits (i.e: Wells Fargo had a recent card that offered ~$250 with $1500 spent on the card, got declined because of too many recent accounts opened).
I occasionally get "pre-approved" shite card offers with no annual fee. If I want to have the highest credick score possible in 3-4 years when I buy a home, should I just jump on a card that I know can increase my available credit and have a relatively higher age of credit (I would never/rarely actually use the card), or should I just hold off until I can get a card with good benefits?
ETA: Really, I guess I should be asking for recommendations on a card that's easy to be approved for and comes with a high credit limit.

Don't know what type of limit you'd be able to get with it but have you looked into the Uber Visa card? I just got one a while back. Approval was almost instant. Has pretty good benefits. I didn't get a huge limit, but I still have pretty young credit history. I was a cash only person for a long time until I saw the light.
4% back on restaurants, bars, takeout including UberEats
3% back on hotel & airfare
2% back on online purchases including Uber & video/music services
1% back on everything else
Also no foreign transaction fees or annual fee and a couple other benefits for using the card enough.

Hello credit card people.
My fuel expenses have increased by 100-125% as of recent and I see that to become the new normal for the foreseeable future.
Do any of you have recommendation for a card that focuses heavily on fuel purchases?
I currently use my Amex gold for everything, and have no complaints really, but if there is something designed for gas then I may get it for that purpose alone.

#1 if possible lease an electric vehicle.
..if that #1 isn't possible then obtaining both the chase freedom and discover it would be your best bet.
both have rotating 5% cash back on gas

i have a penfed platinum visa that gives 5% cash back on fuel purchases, but I'm not sure its offered anymore
i believe the costco card gives like 3% back....amex blue cash preferred is also 3% cash back, with other categories as well

4% on gas. 3% on restaurants & travel. 2% on Costco purchases. No annual fee (covered in the Costco membership). Pretty decent card.
