Like Croaka mentioned, since recent Wanna Get Away Fare changes it's usually better math to call and book through Chase UR points because you get SWRR points for the flight. But if you have a decent chance of changing/cancelling the flight or don't feel like waiting on the phone it's mostly a wash.

PSA for Ink cardholders: OD is doing another card deal. This time its MCs with $15 off purchase of $300. But the glitch with your rewards no. gives an extra $15 off at some stores. Only bad thing is liquidating MCs aren't as easy as the VCs.

ETA Looks like the glitch deal is dead and OD fixed the glitch. I hit them pretty good the last 2 days and even got $45 off at Denham Springs OD. Total haul this last month is right at 100k UR.

I have chase UR with sapphire reserve and I fly southwest all the time.

Sometimes if the ticket is really cheap I’ll just pay cash, other times I’ll just transfer the points from UR to RR.

Haven’t phoned in a SW reservation to UR yet.

I thought you cannot purchase Southwest tickets anywhere besides SW's website. I'm a dumbass. Tough week at work

But ya, that would be the way to go if you use them for sure since they are roughly worth 1.4 to 1.6 cents per point when transferred to RR and worth 1.5 cents used through UR portal to buy tthe flight straight up and earn miles for the flight.

I've never transferred UR to RR in large amounts to even make the mistake to begin with and always paid cash.

Speaking of SW & RR, check your accounts for the recent email promo (targeted) that gives you 3k RR points for 3 months of email and 6k if you get the emails for 6 months. LINK My junk email will be getting bombarded i'm sure

My wife got the offer and I didn't when I checked a week or so ago. What BS. I bet I was somehow already signed up or something.

ETA: I was. I unsubscribed to see if I could goad it to give me the promotion.

Just the opposite. I got it and she and my kids didn't.

Anybody with thoughts on UR now being transferable to JetBlue?

Looks like Southwest where you'll be better off paying cash/pay with points than transferring, but always good to have a way to keep points from expiring.

I had the same thought.

It's always disappointing for me when Chase adds a transfer program that calculates "awards" based on dollar value of the ticket/room/etc. I've found it's almost always better for me to just book at 1.5.

Chase bonus waiting period goes from 24 months to 48 months

quote:

Now, the issuer has quietly updated its offer terms to extend that period on applications for the Chase Sapphire Reserve to once every 48 months, instead of the previous 24 months, and on some instances of the Chase Sapphire Preferred application as well.

It was only a matter of time. CSR is not a card I planned to churn but it’s just a bad trend in general.

speaking of churning..
does anyone use plastiq to pay rent/mortages, etc?

considering points can be worth up to $.28 on 1st class long hauls...that 2.5% charge for plastiq isnt looking too bad

The 2.5% is too high for me, but I do use my Amex BB+ to pay my taxes online at 1.87% which works out to a profit and a good chunk of easy points.

It was worth it when a multiplier attached to it, like when it coded as Lodging for 3x travel on Reserve.

Ya, bummer news.

They are pushing me to really forget about 5/24 and really hammer other banks. I was pretty much done with my second round through Chase so I can just keep those open for regular expenses.

The economy is doing well. When things turn South again the deals will come back.

That 48 mo. change coming right at the 2 year mark will spoil many plans to ditch and re-up the CSR. Hope this isn't a sign of things to come!

Maybe someone can clarify - is this new 48mo rule only for the CSR (if you've had it previously)? Next month will be 2yrs that I've had the CSP and I never had a CSR. I was planning to ditch the CSP and get the CSR soon. Is that still possible or does this apply to having either sapphire card?
