Guys I know this is a little off topic but I've got 3 credit cards I just paid off...what to do now? My score is still very low at around 650

Best way to increase my score pronto? Get a secured card? Keep low balances and keep them paid on my 3 cards?

Thanks!

I have Discover 2% cash back on most purchases doesn't cost me anything. Pay it off in full every month.

Any thoughts on hhonors? We have a southwest card with the companion status, so I don't need any additional airline miles. Also interested in hearing about Marriott cards

What's your recs on having a bad credit score and just getting a few more cards and paying them off every month in full? Will it up my credit score quicker than just paying on the one I have every mo.?

What are some good sites for tracking Credit Card promotions, outside of this forum?

Anybody have the Amex Blue Cash Preferred?

Just had a baby and gas and groceries are our biggest expenses. This card offers 6% cash back at supermarkets (up to 6,000 spent) and 3% at gas stations.

Even with the $75 annual fee, I come out ahead compared to the no annual fee 3% groceries version of the card.

Just curious if anyone has any experiences with it.

The increase in fee from gold to platinum wasn't worth it to me. I can easily earn the 175.00 fee in reward points within 12 months. When I got the gold a few years ago it came with an introductory 50,000 pts as well. The 450.00 fee was a little steep and I would probably struggle to break even with reward points as I usually hover between 2500.00 to 3000.00 in expenses every month.

If you have already committed to the platinum I would see no reason to keep the gold. Closing out a card with no pre-set limit will not negatively affect your credit.

I read this blog post a couple weeks ago and decided to try it out (AA miles are my favorite). Long story short it worked.

Finally time for me to figure out how MS works. I got a Serve card and will be doing some homework.

I currently do not have a credit card that I use for regular spending, but am looking to apply for one. I plan to spend roughly 300-600 dollars a month on this card(basic expenditures) and pay it off regularly. I don't care about APR/Balance Transfer benefits.

Which card would be the best for my situation from a cash back/rewards perspective? I should have a pretty good credit score due to making large purchases on my other card that's linked to Merrill.

I was thinking Citi Double Cash would be good, but wanted to see if anyone had any other suggestions.

Well....thanks to the counsel of this thread, I was able to book a two room suite in New Orleans last weekend...and they took the points no problem.

This was off the Marriott card. As I have learned more about reward points, my level of sophistication is increasing. I will be transitioning away from the brand specific card in 2016 and going more for points for flights to SLC primarily.

Thanks for the knowledge and insight from this thread during the year.

My situation: I put 30,000 dollars a month combined on multiple United Business and personal credit cards and pay them out every month. I do this because I travel for family reasons to one very specific place often and get a lot of free tickets this way. United has stopped offering one leg of this journey making it hard to get to my destination with them. American Airlines has stepped in and made the trip easier than ever before. I would like to switch credit cards to take advantage of this.

My question: Should I just switch to American Airline credit cards or just go with American Express. 95% of my travel expenses are to this one place and I use every credit card point I earn to get to this place. The bills are paid out in full every month. I've read much of this thread over the years but never came across someone with this problem, but I know there are guys in here that know their shite when it comes to this, so I'm asking for help.

My wife and I are about to start new construction on our home. I am thinking about getting a new credit card to accrue points while also kee3ping new home purchases separate from other purchases. What is the best credit card option to accrue points for this scenario? I will not be using this for gas or entertainment, only for materials so I am not sure what the best option there is that applies to these purchases.

Probably covered at some point in the 200+ page topic, but is there a one stop shop and/or newsletter that one can rely on to be notified of top credit card reward offers as they become available?

This AMEX Blue Cash card seems to be a great deal for buying a new iPad through Verizon. 10% cash back on the iPad itself then 10% off the bill. Also should be very easy to reach $1000 spent in the first 3 months for the $250 credit. Seems too good to be true. Am i missing something here? Any serious disadvantage to opening and closing credit cards to jump on deals like this?

What's the best credit card to get 2% (or greater) cash back rewards for fast food, dining, etc.

I looked at the TD Bank Cash card but Louisiana is not in their footprint.

I have a question for those a little more savvy than I with international travel.

My Dad is working internationally right now (Saudi Arabia). Not surprisingly, he's been dealing with some identify theft issues, and after a little prodding I found he's been using this debit card for some personal purchases.

What are some of the better cards he can use out there. My quick research tells me CSP, since it has no foreign transaction fees and such.

Any recommendations?

Have had chase sapphire for about 2 years and i have been accumulating travel points. but this credit card charges 100$ annual fee which i think is a scam.
I'm looking to close this account and get a another card with similar perks in terms of travel points.
any recommendations?

Made my own thread but I figured I would ask here as well

I have been receiving a promotional offer for the Citi American Airlines card that gives $50,000 bonus miles for spending $3,000 within the first three months. This would be easily attainable and me and my wife would like to take a vacation around labor day. The rewards could potentially cover the cost of flying.

My question of course is this: Is it worth the hit on my credit to open a new account just to get a free flight? My current credit score is around a 790 so I'm on solid ground. I currently use two cards: one Discover that I've had since college and use as my primary spending card to earn cashback and a Capital One mastercard that I pretty much only use as a backup for places that don't accept discover.

I always pay my balance off at the end of the month and never pay interest.

I was told three trade lines were often standard for traditional mortgages. I've never had a car note or student debt and never had the need for multiple cards. Credit score is very good but was told I could still be denied due to too few trade lines.

I currently only have Chase Freedom. Which two cards would be recommended for someone who doesn't spend a ton of money but still seeks worthwhile rewards?
