This. He will get 7-10M to leave the coaching job, then get $1M+ a year to be a "consultant"

All this is speculative if he does step down, of course.

I wish he would go to another big-12 school and dominate the the conference.

He's not going anywhere. They'll negotiate his "resignation" into a university fund-raising position. That will please both factions of boosters-the old guard (Deloss Dodd and friends)who didnt want him gone, and the new AD (and boosters tired of A&Ms shadow) will be able to move forward with a better coach. (Both groups would keep giving $$ in this situation, and thats why its so important to keep Mack around and call it a resignation and not a firing.)

He'll become a musician, and score a hit single by "freestyling" Texas Fight in a duet with Herbstreit.

I get this feeling too; I think his lawyer buddy (Jamail) has pulled a few strings to make sure he'll be fine.
He's done exemplary service, it was just time to move on. I doubt Saban (or any other high profile name) wants to walk into a battlezone in the athletic department. If everything plays out like it seems, we'll see the template for how to take care of long-standing coaches who just run their courses; Miles at LSU, Richt at Georgia, etc.

Exactly, its called making peace. Contractually, UT could fire Mack today, pay him his $2.75 payoff, and discard him like A&M did Sherman. Even Joe Jamail couldn't prevent that. But to make peace you strike a deal. Its called compromise and if our congress did a little more of this maybe our govt wouldn't be so dysfunctional.

"Making peace" keeps the boosters happy. Many are personal friends with Mack and don't want to see him kicked to the curb like Bobby Bowden.

I doubt it

they will probably give him a cushy administration job to buy his silence.

kind of like how RC Slocum never left A&M after he was forced out.

I can't see Mack at another program. It seems as if he has been gliding for years now.

Just curious, do you ever make a post which doesn't mention A&M in some way?

Other than maybe tigger, who simply defies all laws of physics, I'm honestly not sure if it's possible to obsess more than you about another school.
