What are some movies that start off great......then whether its a change of setting, intro to a new character, etc......just ends up being a lesser movie.

This usually happens with comedies for me.

I thought Scary Movie 2 started out great. Then 20 mins in......meh (although Chris Elliott does save the movie)

Actually, the 2nd half of many of Apatow's movies are when they transcend their genre and become something more than, say, a Will Ferrell comedy.

Hancock

first 30-45 minutes were great and then the idiotic twist ruined it.

Crazy, Stupid, Love. The ending "fight" is just silly and kid story arc is over-sentimental.

And yes, Judd Apatow movies. I always wish they were 30 mins shorter. They aren't bad movies, but they drag on unnecessarily every time. It's almost like Apatow can't get over his own pretentiousness.

i'll get laughed at, but

The hulk

the first 2/3rds are just great and it really is on track to be the first super hero film that is just a good fricking movie on its own...then the final act devolves into stupidity of epic proportions.

The Tom Cruise "War of the Worlds" started out awesome, but got unwatchable during the Tim Robbins scene.

If you mean the Ang Lee version then I agree with you.

Once the mutant dogs came in it really started to fall apart and the Electro-esque battle with his father was lame.

I did really like the part when he was breaking out of the facility though. That was easily the best use of the comic panel style editing in the movie.

X-Men Origins Wolverine.

I was drooling over that title sequence, and then everything afterwards

the dogs didn't bother me. I forget where to track it devolving into shite, but it is a great film to a certain point and then just falls apart spectacularly

Yeah the problem is that Apatow is good at making funny movies, not transcendent movies.

Darkness Falls.

Opening is phenomenal and freaky as shite.

Up until halfway, still solid. Last half ruined it.
