The Last Waltz

I have heard the Last Waltz on cd numerous times, but had never seen it till last night. What an unbelievable group of musicians in the Band and the guests were like a who's who of great musicians. All the guest performances were outstanding especially Van Morrison.....he fricking nailed it.
But what a fricking self-righteous douche Robbie Robertson is. I saw in the credits that he was a producer of the movie but damn if he didn't make himself seem like the only person in the Band. There was not near enough live footage of the other members or interviews. And wtf is up with cutting out on Chest Fever after that badass intro by Garth Hudson?

Yes. It's been years but I remember Danko and Janis Joplin being fricked out of their minds

Yep. He claims credit for writing most of the songs. But everyone else in The Band says it was a collaborative effort on most songs.

Levon hated him until the day he died.
I think the ops anger is misguided though. Doesnt martin Scorsese, the director, deserve the hate for all the rr interviews. Also, robbie was the quasi-leader of the band, so of course he spoke the most.

He does direct it, but in the credits it lists RR as producer. I'm not sure if that had anything to do with it. Also, I always thought Levon was the quasi leader since they used to be called Levon and the Hawks?

I think they both thought of themselves as leaders and thats a big reason they failed.

I guess an original last waltz album isn't really worth that much money is it?

Any fan of The Band and Levon should read this:

I watch the last waltz probably twice a year at least. Just to remind myself how amazing they were

Robbie Robertson was on XM Outlaw Country the other day, and is still so full of himself

I don't know that much about him but he comes off that way to me too. Did you see how he was leering at Joni Mitchell when she comes out to play "Coyote"?

The Levon Helm documentary "Ain't in it for My Health" is on Netflix, FYI.

I was supposed to see him at JazzFest a few days before he died. It was heartbreaking to miss that show and lose a legend.
And if you haven't heard Levon's solo stuff, check it out on Spotify. Those albums (Dirt Farmer, Electric Dirt) are awesome.

For whatever damn reason, they didn't have enough film to cover the entire concert. They were many sets played that are not to be seen on the movie.

I know a guy who was there. He was a freshman at Berkeley. It was on Thanksgiving night and they served the audience a turkey dinner afterward.

I was beyond excited to see Levon play at Jazzfest. Very sad he passed. However, Warren Haynes was a nice replacement and he honored him well that set
