I had a very creepy and scary thing happen to me when I was 10 years old. Growing up, I lived in a suburb of Atlanta that was really just starting to grow and would be better defined as semi rural. This was 1980.

We lived on a street with a lot of 70s ranch style homes and did not have a ton of traffic pass through. So little that we could play ball in the street without having to move but once every ten minutes or so. About a 1/4 mile up the road was a great park with a BMX track, an equestrian ring, ball fields, tennis courts , etc.. My neighbor friends and I basically lived up there in the summer.

One day, after spending a few hours there, my neighbor and I were walking home when an old beat up cutlass rolled up on us from behind and stopped beside us. There was a middle aged man driving and a middle aged woman in the passenger seat. The driver stepped out of the car and approached us while asking a question about if we knew where Hopkins road was. As I started to point and give directions, he made a quick move and tried to grab my wrist. I jerked away and we both started hauling as like a grizzly was chasing us. The man quickly got back in his car and tailed us down the street. We were yelling and screaming as we ran until we ran into my yard and into my house. They continued on down the street and left the area. Of course, I called my mom at work and told her what had happened. She told us to remain in the house with my older brother((15) and she told him to get his 20 gauge out and ready in case they came back. They didn't that day.

Flash forward two weeks and we my neighbors and I are in the yard playing whiffle ball. We see the car slow rolling down the street and basically stop in front of my yard. It was just the man this time but he had on a pair of googly eye glasses with the springs that made them dangle. He sat there and just stared at us and I yelled that it was the bad guy and all 6 of us went berserk and ran in several directions. After about 10 seconds, he gunned it and disappeared up the street. I called mom again and she said to go inside as she was calling the police and she was on her way home. The police show up and we told them what had happened two weeks prior and what happened that day. They talked to my mom when she got home and they agreed that we were to stay inside the house with doors locked until she and/or dad got home from work.

A week later, my older brother!and sister and I are chilling watching cartoons and I see a man walk by our living room window real close to the house. He walks up on our porch and straight to the front door and starts jiggling the knob. He was trying to force it open but we had the deadbolt locked. After about 30 seconds he calmly walked to the back of my house( I saw him pass the window again) and I ran to the kitchen where the phone was on the wall. As I am dialing the police, I see him approach our back door and start jiggling that handle. I was on the phone with the police telling them that a man was trying to get into my house when the man and I made eye contact through the door window panes. He was calm as hell as he jiggled the handle and just stared at me. I yelled at him that the police were on the way and just calmly walked away. I went back to the front of the house and saw him jogging through my neighbors yard and get into the cutlass that he had parked on the side of the road a few houses up on the street. He was long gone before the police arrived. Never saw the guy or th beat again after that but I am certain that he had real bad intentions.

That was the speculation. They had crossed the wrong person.

In high school, (80s- Friday the 13th and Michael Myers timeframe) we used to enjoy checking out any creepy or scary story or location within driving distance. I did grow up in a small, rural town. Just curious if this was common in other areas.

We did this for the thrill and also to prove how tough we were to the girls we would bring along.

A couple of "adventures" that I remember are:

1) Checking out an old abandoned church that was rumored to have satanic cult using it. It was located close to Columbus, MS.

2) Exploring an abandoned house out in the woods. The house belonged to a family that only had one person still living. We were told this man had killed his mother in the house years ago and was currently locked up in some kind of prison/insane asylum.

These 2 are probably the creepiest experiences we had with what happened during our late night explorations. Each had moments of sheer terror that were 100% real. However, I am not sure the true stories of what happened would rise to the creepy level of this thread...just somewhat interesting after we discovered the truths behind our experiences.

I also was pranked by some friends who had setup an old unoccupied house with "tricks" to play on me. A system of fishing line run from the living room to other areas of the house to make things move, crash etc. They had been talking up the Ouija board stuff and I was laughing at them. Long story short, after I dropped off my girlfriend one night I met them at this house with their board. They sold it good. By the time I got into my car I was in a state of fear, feeling chills up my back as I was certain something had gotten into my car with me as I left this house. By the time I had made it home, rational thought had been restored but I had to admit I had been terrified as figurines, salt shakers, etc would fly off of furniture in our room and others and no one was close.

Anybody else spend part of their youth exploring these type stories/rumors around their hometown? Or were we just weird?

It was back then and we all kept out head on a swivel for a few years. After that I always kept a switch blade and/or a homemade spear with me when we were outside roaming the neighborhood. Not that they would have been of use but as a kid I didn't really know any better. I also learned soon after to load and fire my brothers shotgun for defense against home intrusion.

Stolen from Reddit -

A week after gaining my CPR certification, I had to try and perform CPR on a woman dying of a heroin (probably other drugs too) overdose.

I was at a thrift store with some friends looking for Halloween costumes, and someone came in saying that someone was passed out in the parking lot. I was in the dressing room, and it just got super quiet, so I came out and told them I was certified and I'd go take a look and that they needed to call 911.

I go outside and don't see anyone on the ground. Someone comes out and shouts that the person is in the car that's parked far out by itself. I ran over and honestly freaked the frick out. She was pretty much already dead. Completely blue in the face, slumped against her car window. She had the red druggie rings around her eyes, but those were blue too because she was so oxygen deprived.

We opened the door and I'll never forget that when we turned her head to see if she still had a pulse, she had tears running down her face. We pulled her out of the car, put her on the ground, and took her pulse again because the first person to do it wasn't sure. We started CPR and the ambulance arrived about a minute after. They got her strapped up and in and continued CPR. They had another ambulance come and those EMTs got out and there was literally like 6 of them surrounding her. The cop told us they had administered some type of drug that can apparently reverse heroin overdoses if given in time, but she was pretty much dead already. They would do the necessary stuff until the could get to the hospital and call it, according to him.

I also remember when we opened the door there was heroin needles and empty pill bottles all over the floor. She wasn't very old. We also think she had kids. She had some toys and a carseat, plus two names tattooed on her.

Most of the stuff on there are horribly written and usually cringy stories. But the good stuff is excellent.

I remember when this bad boy first got started. The “smiling man” story is still the scariest shite I’ve ever read. The YouTube short films on it don’t do it justice at all
