Did you like that movie?

I just read an article about how that movie pretty much ruined Jake Lloyd's (Anakin Skywalker) life. It said ever since the movie came out, pretty much every star wars fan hated it and hated Jake Lloyd. They said it was the worst performance in movie history. Apparently all the kids at his school would constantly tease him about it every time he walked in the room. I remember seeing in theaters in '99 and being kind of disappointed. However, I didn't think it was that bad.

Anyone here have any thoughts on that movie?

It's a pretty detested film around these parts.

This guy summarizes mine pretty well: LINK

After watching this, I think you should agree with me on it being terrible.

It could have been done better. The casting for Anakin, both of them, was pretty poor. Thank god Quigon and Obi-Wan.

It's certainly not the worst of Star Wars films.

I maintain that this film is not close to the train wreck people make it out to be. In the past decade Hollywood has spit out far worse with high expectations.

No but if I watch Attack of the Clones first then Phantom Menace it comes off like Citizen Kane.

I'm sure he made more money on that one movie that I'll ever make in my life. I'd take that deal to ruin my life in a heartbeat.

I was a huge star wars fan, and this movie really burned all bridges for me.

The acting, script and premise were pretty terrible. After they burned holes in the doors with their lightsabers it went to shite.

Too much forced political dialogue and you never cared or thought anyone was in danger... from Naboo to Anakin to the Senate. To much forced dialogue in general.

There's no redeeming it, as much as I wanted to try and find some good in it.

Lucas is about 99% to blame as he's become an awful director, and even worse screenwriter. It's just he's at the point to where no studio has the power to tell him no. He became such a force with Star Wars & Indiana Jones, who would dare tell him he stinks, because he, in effect, owns the damn studio and distribution. I don't know if there are many actors that could have salvaged that script.

He keeps reverting back to his one talking point: "I made this movie for kids"

Actually George, I think you made this movie for your kids. You gave no regard for anyone else, and just used your own, insulated kids as the litmus test and assumed that the rest of the country was on board.

The prequels are what happens when everyone is too scared to tell the boss "no"

Ever since Red Letter Media's review of the prequel films, you see a lot of people trying to pass off Plinket opinions as their own.

And I have seen a lot of it here.

While I love Liam Neeson and Qui Gon, the character really wasn't needed. That arc should have went to Obi-Wan in the beginning. Get rid of Jar Jar and cast a better Anakin and it's a great movie.

A lot of people really seem to hate Jar Jar but I thought he was pretty funny. The movie wasn't that bad, people just get angry when things don't live up to their expectations. If you judge the movie for what it is and what it's trying to do, it's entertaining and fun. What more can you ask for.

The only thing I liked about it was Darth Maul. The fight scene at the end was awesome.

Aside from that, knowing this kid eventually turns into Darth Vader kinda ruined it for me. "Let's try spinning, that's a good trick.... whoaaaaa" Come on.

I'm a hardcore Star Wars fan, and the only part of this movie I'll watch is the fight scene at the end.

Jar Jar should've never been introduced.

What's sad is, that it probably had the best lightsaber battle & had a really badass villain in Maul that was killed off. That's what sucked for me.

Can you post us a link to that article. I'd like to read it. Seems strange that kids that age would care about Anakin Skywalker enough to constantly tease him long enough to have that kind of devastating impact. But I'd like to check out that article.

I never understood the hate for the prequels. I loved all of them and Episode 3 is my favorite of all 6 films. It is Jedi with lightsabers. There was no possible way I would not love that movie. I have read over 50 books from the expanded universe, so seeing any kind of Jedi on screen is awesome.

Yes, I will admit that Jar Jar was absolutely terrible and that the actors playing both young and old Anakin were bad, but I did not let that ruin the movie for me. It had lightsabers and Jedi. Did you miss that part? Also, Liam Neeson and Ewan McGregor were both awesome. And we got to see Yoda fight. I have watched all 3 prequels many, many times.

On a side note, any chance the originals (as in not the updated ruined versions) get released on blu ray now that lucas sold it?

No. Slow, boring, predictable.

I chalked it up, at the time, to it being a restart, a set-up piece and that Lucas would regain his footing for the remainder.

THEN, I watched Send in the Clones - my G-d what an awful, awful movie. I only went to see Revenge of the Sith for completion purposes. It was better than Clones, but how could it not be?

"Noooooooo!!!!!!!!" - I laughed out loud. I always refer to that character as "Fake Vader", or "The artist that refers to himself as Darth Vader but is, in reality, a whiny p*ussy in Vader's armor."

I'm done with Lucas.
