I think its becoming relatively clear that Trey Burke will be the pick. Saric is out, Len will likely be gone by 6. I'd put the odds at 75% as of right now (obviously, things can change).

So, if he is the pick:

How does that effect the rest of the offseason?

If Burke is the pick...

It means we still need to get a starting SF for next season and possibly look for an upgrade to Lopez at center.

That means a play for Martell Webster, Dorell Wright, etc., is likely since we need a guy who is an outside shooter to be the starter at that position.

We can still make a play for Pekovic, but that's increasingly unlikely to happen if Minny fixes their salary situation.

Jimmy Smith at the Times Picayune just tweeter that he's hearing Len is the likely pick at 1.

Lopez is serviceable. I would concentrate on the SF.

I've heard this, too, but I think there's no fricking way it happens.

Cleveland wants to win this year and a guy who won't really develop for a few years isn't going to be a big help to them.

Even if someone wanted to trade up for Len, they wouldn't need to get all the way to #1 for it.

The SF is a necessity because we don't have a starter.

Upgrading at center would be really nice if we get the opportunity, as I think Pekovic would be the center we'd need to go alongside Davis for the next 5-10 years.

That would rule out Noel for them as well, then.

Not arguing with you, but with that logic, you think Porter goes #1?

I've seen new mocks where Porter falls to us simply because the Cavs are taking Len now. Noel now falls to Washington which leaves Porter for us at 6.

If we get Burke, then I'd be trying to trade GV.

I agree with this.

Signed, Jarvis Jones.

Regardless of what happens, we need to upgrade the PG, SF and C position.

If Burke is your PG upgrade, you have to figure out what you're going to do with Rivers. Sign Wright or Webster and look for a C upgrade.

If we sign Len, we still need to sign Wright or Webster and figure out if Rivers is our PG of the future.

So in short, not much.

I never understood that though. There's value in the depth he'd provide. We'd eventually be bringing two starter level players off our bench with Vasquez and Anderson.

I say keep him and see what type of contract he might be offered

There may have been better "player swap" offers out there, but Demps only turned Jack into cap space with which he got Lopez with. Vasquez probably doesn't bring you back much unless it's attached to a bad contract. I think Vasquez will have more value near the deadline when teams are looking to plug holes in their depth gearing up for the playoffs.

Regardless, you don't immediately trade your starting PG when you are left with a rookie and Austin Rivers.

Evaluate it at the deadline, like you said.

His value is at a high right now, so if the pick is Burke then I'd rather package him and Lopez and see what that brings me back. He'll be up for a contract extension also, and I rather it not be us to pay him.

To be clear I'm not saying trade him immediately; trade deadline is cool becuase by then we should see if Rivers can handle back up duties.

I can see something like this happening

1. Len
2. McLemore
3. Noel
4. Bennett
5. Dipo
6. Porter

I think the only player on our roster that is untouchable is Davis, but even if we draft Burke, I don't think trading GV is a must. If you get a good offer on him, then yeah take it. But he could give us some pretty good depth/versatility at 1-3, on a pretty cheap contract.

Gotcha. I'd be fine with that as well.

Although, i'd like to see what type of contract he'd actually get. Particularly if he's our backup. Is some team really gonna give him an over the top contract that we couldn't match at that point?

There's fire to this smoke. If Len goes to #1, Washington will roll the dice on Noel's upside. All the scouting reports call Porter a role player who "may not merit a top 5 pick due to his ceiling." Works for the Pelicans...let him fall to 6.

I'm all for drafting Burke. I'm just not ready to give up on Rivers, who was showing progress late in the season before hr broke his hand. So,
