At first site, it looks kind of like a snakehead, but the tail is wrong.

Gobi would have a little sucker disk on the bottom. (Naked Gobies, G.bosc) are the most common in Louisiana, but this is way to big and the spots aren't normal in gobies

We were in saltwater in Cocodrie, so I doubt its a snakehead.
It had no suckers.
Yes, it had a lot of small teeth.

Definitely a midshipman. Related to the oyster toadfish. Benthic predators.
