Diesel Engine MPG question... i know im going to catch hell for this

ok, so i know a few people with gmc 2500 diesel trucks, what i didnt know up until about a year ago is that you can basically put in a chip that will almost double your gas mileage. (thats what he told me, please let me know if their is way more to it) so anyways, he had a 2500 diesel getting around 29mpg. now i know you can get this out of a truck, which is great. but here is my question, which i know im going to catch hell for.
can you do the same type of improvements on a VW Toureg TDI? i know it would obviously void the warranty on a new one, but say on a 2012 that someone buys off the lot from a lease. could it be done?
i have prepared the anus
something to make the toureg more manly

You drive a vw!? BOO THIS MAN!!!!!@!@ ok now that that is out of the way, yea you should be able to do that, but it may not help much since they're already pretty good on mpg.

I drive a 2003 GMC Duramx and routinely get 20-21mpg. Got a programmer that my dad used on the truck and set to highway mode (vs pulling mode).
It's actually a bitch with all 80 gallons on board (25 stock tank+55 gall aux tool/fuel)...That's 1600 miles...and I only take piss breaks and leg stretches.

not true. for diesels, a lot of chips can bump your HP up by ~100, but you won't get double gas mileage. Everyone would buy one

To get milage like that I think you need a tuner, DPF delete, and an EGR blocker/different exhaust. I'm not the person to ask though

I have a VW Pasat, diesel and get 46...

I get 25 in my F250. Just had another fricked up motor though.
I don't think there are chips for VW stuff, and even if, you'd have to straight pipe it to see any gains

He is probably lying. My truck was getting 21 when I still had regular rims and tires. That was with an intake and close to straight pipe exhaust. I didn't chip it until after I lifted it. Now I get 14-15-16 on interstate but I get it whether I have a load or not. I am willing to bet he has more than a chip if he is getting mileage like that.

Big diesels on trucks leave a lot to be tinkered with. I would not mess with a VW's program. They engineer those things to much tighter tolerances. Plus they're already programmer for milage and not power like trucks are. You'll also get better than advertised. My wife has a tdi jetta and averages 39-40 mpg and her commute isnt really hwy miles.

It would probably explode.
Still halfway looking into them, but I'm pretty terrified of VW maintenance costs. My mom had a passat years ago. It was awesome until it hit 100k and then it started doing lots of very bad things, like eating engines.

Maybe 18mpg at best on a 2500Hd with a chip and dpf delete. My 08 only got around 12 around town and 15 on the interstate. My new 2012 ford with urea injection gets 14-15 around town and 18-20 on the interstate. Definitely bullshite on the 29mpg

I've got a mini max chip in my f250. It increased highway mpg by about 4.
